It was bad because despite the setting and adding magic, they couldn't actually conjure a good plot beyond "RACISM!!"
The racism is central to the plot and the setting, instead of being just a commentary on the lore.
For that reason, it's a trash movie, because it could have been a lot better, but it settled for mundane and lame
