I actually doubt he would have nailed it. Raimi didn't know villains from the 80's and onward. Let alone other spider-man media, he knew the 60's and 70's comics. Man-Spider is featured heavily in the cartoon, but in the comics its from an X-men cross over.

It really is frustrating that Avi Arad who was so heavily involved in the cartoon and movies didn't just hire John Semper Jr to help the movies. Man-Spider, the symbiote, so much works really well in the cartoon.
