I very much liked this movie despite the homoerotic undertones.
>>
The newer series is pure kino and there are no undertones.
>>
>>221208738
ironically its gayer to not act like this if you're a 500 year old vampire, you projecting closet-case
>>
>>221208738
i think its overtly homosexual. undertones are hebephilic. decent flick by todays standards but its really only notable for the cast.

What did Lestat mean by that?

I like the books for the narrative structure. Each follows one vampire with their backstory of a different historical period split with a modern plotline that continues through them.

It's kinda crazy how badly they fucked up the TV series with this and the books as a starting point.
>Let's make it about black people in the 19th century
Why tho?
Literally just have a hot white vampire non-consensually fuck and then turn a hot white human and get money. How do you actually fuck that up? It writes itself. They had to put effort in to not do this.
>>
>>221209808
It's about homos being gay over the centuries. Across 13 books and dozens of characters you can count the hetero pairings on one hand. Even Lestat's mother turns into a tranny the second he turns her.

>>221209897
Yeah I know, I only read like 3 of the books.
And like 90% of the people who read all 13 books were obese cis women with double digit IQs.
It's a level of wokism that nobody else even seems to get, you have an audience there, they clearly want something very specific and obvious, they are well and truly a large enough audience to pay for it, but you want to take the the actually wanted, turn it into something completely different, and then call them racist for not liking the fact you DIDN'T put LGBTQ themes in it.

Literally, what the fuck is wrong with people in hollywood? Is there an actual psychiatric diagnosis here?

Why do women writers always make their male protags gay?
Anne Rice with this, Rowling with Dumbledore a few others i can't be arsed to remember too. What gives? You'd think they'd make them pussyhounds going after their self insert because thats what they want if they are straight and if they are lesbian, well they wouldn't be writing about males I guess.

That was a twitter retconn tho. There is literally nothing in the novels to indicate that Dumbledore was gay.

Also Fujoshis are waaaay more common than you think.
>>
>>221208856
The whole point of the book was homosexual degeneracy, so the movie did its job.
What I want to know (although this is a /lit/ question) is if Rice knew about the GRID in the mid 1970s. I keep getting hints that fags knew that something was wrong in their community. I mean, druggies already knew but nobody was asking them.

>>
>>221211206
They don't know how to write a man so they write a woman pretending to be a man that says a bunch of dumb stuff that think would be sexy.

For every time a woman has complained about men writing about women's boobs a woman has written a novel where a man's cock is described bouncing around in his pants while he crosses and uncrosses his legs while smirking haughtily
>>
>>221211250
>Also Fujoshis are waaaay more common than you think.
Pretty sure the majority of Sherlock fandom at its peak was writing dirty fics about him and Watson fucking.
Anyway I never could get into Anne Rice stuff, I forced myself to read Interview all the way through but it was a slog and I never finished the movie. I thought Tom Cruise looked distractingly weird in that costume and styling.
>>
>>221208738
it was an excellent movie. i was actually kind of sad when it ended because i was enjoying watching it so much.
>>
>>221211336
Yeah she starts wearing the clothes of her victims and gets pissed when her hair won't stay short after she cuts it. Lestat keeps trying to remind her she's a lady but she gets tired of him pretty quick and takes off on her own.
>>
>>221208768
>The newer series is pure kino and there are no undertones.
correct
there are homosexual overtones
>>
>>221208738
I honestly kind of wished it was longer. The plot feels a bit rushed.
>>
>>221211383
>I never could get into Anne Rice stuff, I forced myself to read Interview all the way through but it was a slog and I never finished the movie.
The movie is pretty decent, and Dunst, while older than the character was (good luck finding a 5-6 year-old that could have played that part), was exceedingly good.

I read it while I was in high school, back in the day. I remember the part of the book where Louis and Claudia are traveling around Europe, looking for other vamps, being a slog.

The Vampire Lestat is probably the better book, and is basically Lestat saying, "Louis was a lying, whining, bitch, and half that shit never happened, so I'm going to tell you my REAL life story."

Queen of The Damned is mostly a lot of lore about how vampires came to be, along with some Lestat and vignettes about vampires we've never seen before and will never see again.

After that, it gets really, really, gay. And if you thought it was gay before... no, Body Thief is really gay. That was the last Vampire Chronicles book I read.

I haven't watched the TV series version of the Vampire Chronicles, but changing Claudia's race and age, the time period it's set in, and Louis' race, are all retarded choices.

I read the first of the Mayfair Witches books back then, too, and, while I recall there being some interesting stuff in there, I mostly remember large stretches of it being a giga-slog, interspersed with the short-sighted whore of a main character doing inadvisable things that lead me to the conclusion she was a short-sighted whore.

My friend bought me the sequel to it, but I never read it.
>>
>>221212088
Look up the renquist quartet, late 90s vampires in new york and la. Cool lore and worl. The first 2 are perfect for a movie.
>>
>>221208768
>The newer series is pure kino and there are no undertones.
I unironically think it's better they leaned into the homoeroticism rather than tap danced around it. I also like how when Louis cries
>woe is me, I was gay and black in 1920s New Orleans!
the interviewer shits on him for being a serial killing immortal vampire.
>>
>>221212430
Wait, Louis is black in the tv series? pfffthh
>>
>>221211324
Louis is unmarried in the novel, it's his brother that dies of some sickness which leads him to disillusion and abandonment of all earthly stuff.
He transforms Claudia because by that point Louis has become disillusioned about him too and could live anytime, so a vulnerable loli would tether him back to the "group".
>>
>>221211336
He's joking, she just starts wearing man's pants and doing stuff that women of her era weren't allowed to
>>
>>221212088
>The Vampire Lestat is probably the better book, and is basically Lestat saying, "Louis was a lying, whining, bitch, and half that shit never happened, so I'm going to tell you my REAL life story."
Yeah, because I'd totally trust his version of the story, sure.
>>
Lestat did nothing wrong
Louis was a whiny bitch

>>221212088
>I haven't watched the TV series version of the Vampire Chronicles, but changing Claudia's race and age, the time period it's set in, and Louis' race, are all retarded choices.

Whether a character is acting smart, or funny, or accurately, and you see it, because the character is well constructed and has good lines, and it's a success.

Or the characte is saying every minute, i'm so funny, i'm so smart, or i'm so relevant, while he's not, and it's a pathetic flop.

this movie is the latter.

shittiest movie i've ever seen.

Renquist would actually work better than half the vampire slop they keep rebooting. Time of Feasting as a grimy 90s NYC movie with practical gore and goth club bullshit would be kino. Problem is they'd turn it into Underworld with quips and leather trenchcoat kung fu.

Mick farren clearly wrote the book to be ready made into a movie and he wants them to be very cool. There is at one point when is detailing a shot that is them just walking towards the camera and describing every accessory they have on the way to the final boss.
