Going back and doing a full watchthrough for the first time since the original ending. I remember disliking the later seasons and finding the finale disappointing; what is the ideal cut-off point so that the show remains good in my mind?
>>221209573FUCK YOU I WANTED TO BE FIRST TO REPLY ITT BEING FIRST TO REPLY IS ALL I HAVE IN MY MISERABLE PATHETIC LIFE WHY DID YOU TAKE THAT AWAY FROM ME WHY WHYYYYYYYYYYY
>>221209517It was never good. The only good thing was the chemistry between GA and DD. That's all.
>>221209517The only thing from the original run thats truly unsalvageable is season 9. I actually really like the s8 finale
>>221209517Cerulean
>>221209598There, happy?
>>221209517It's good until Mulder's dissapearance
>>221209681THANK YOU THANK YOU KIND SIR
I dunno. I'm also rewatching for the first time and I'm bored with Season 2.Mulder finds a buried traincar in the desert and somehow Smoking Man is in action movie mode amd jumps into helicopters and orders his mercenaries to beat up teenage Natives WTF
>>221209517Just watch up to the end of season 7, and maybe peak into the premiere of season 8 if you can't let the cliffhanger go unresolved.
>>221209517I've never watched past Season 2, even on its original run.
Season 6 is usually where I tap out, there are still good episodes but they become fewer and far between. I've watched all the way up to the very first revival season but it was pretty awful, so I never rewatched anything beyond season 8.
>>221209517If you want a "the bad guys win" ending, stop with the season finale where Scully tells her bosses that Mulder killed himself. If you want the good ending, stop with Two Father's/One Son two parter

>>221211595It's kinda funny, I've always considered the Monster of the Week episodes to be X-Files at its best, and the mythology arc to be a weak point that I usually mostly skip. There are some bad MotW episodes for sure though.
Watch the first 5 seasons and then maybe the movie. The show had already become uneven but after 5 is drops more. Maybe just look up which episodes after that were good afterwards and jump through those.
>>221211872I didn't like the myth arc episodes after Duane Barry
First 5 seasons only. Pacific North West or fucking RIOT.
>>221209517Every season has a bunch of stinker eps that should be skipped but the latter seasons aren't as bad as everyone claims. John Doggett was unfairly maligned by fags and women obsessed with David Duchovnysteinberg.
>>221209517Doggett got unfairly hated because niggaz wuz mad about Mulder leaving.
>>2212095175(4(3(2(1))))
>>221211998B--but Duane Barry is the first true mythology episode. The Mythology begins with Gillian Anderson's pregnancy. Everything before that (Pilot, Deep Throat, Conduit, E.B.E. Fallen Angel, The Erlenmeyer Flask, Little Green Men) is just standalone episodes with aliens, that were later retconned and adopted into the mythology.
>>221211595This. Even if Season 6 has several pretty good MOTWs. Season 7 is ass. Season 8 was an improvement over 7, but it's for die-hard fans only. Season 9, 10 and 11 are pathetic.
I'm convinced that S7E13 "First Person Shooter" was an attempt at a Clyde Bruckman-like meta comedy episode.
>>221212916That episode with Langley stuck in the matrix and the weird long haired hitman was pretty good
>>221209517It should’ve been a comedy with occasional serious episodes instead of the other way around. It takes itself too seriously for how stupid the premise is
picrel was actually the hero and he was right about everything
>>221209517I think season 7 is mostly bad with a few gems, season 8 is solid, and season 9 is terrible (though it has a couple episodes a lot of people seem to like or find interesting). In a general sense it falls off after the first movie, but there's still quite a few good episodes after that, especially in seasons 6 and 8. Anyone suggesting otherwise hasn't watched them.My slightly arbitrary ranking would be 3 > 2 = 4 > 5 > 1 > 6 > 8 > 7 > 9
>>221211872>I've always considered the Monster of the Week episodes to be X-Files at its best, and the mythology arc to be a weak point that I usually mostly skip.I think they're a consistent highlight for the first half of the show's run. They're more episodic than people seem to think, even if they add up in terms of continuity.
dont buy any of the people that say "don't watch the mythology eps" many of the smoking mans best parts are in the mythology eps, I'd watch it all easily up through S6
Xfiles is peak comfy. Even the bad episodes. I don’t watch the later seasons because it’s just too long but I’ll watch any if they’re decent.
