Anyone else wonder why it's always rich people who are criticised?

I'm from the UK and while it's not even close to being purely merit based getting rich is definitely much fairer/equal opportunity and you get people from a whole range of backgrounds whereas stuff like journalism, film, acting is much more the domain of posh privileged people. Yet it's always these people who criticise the rich when they're as privileged as it gets.
>>
I just don't get why leftists suddenly got it in their head that it's totally okay to judge people as a person based entirely off of their income-level. Isn't that just prejudice? Or even "classism"?

>whereas stuff like journalism, film, acting is much more the domain of posh privileged people.

When you’re underfunding the arts for decades it creates an environment where only people with pre-existing wealth can stick around for years to build a career in a field where job opportunities are scarce, the pay is usually crap for most jobs (you don’t make tens of millions unless you’re a handful of A-list stars with any negotiation power and demand), there is endless job insecurity, etc. And as for journalism, basically same thing except you also have shift from print to digital media killing tons of local journalism jobs, funding is even more scarce so large news media companies keep cutting jobs especially on the local level, small newspapers shutdown because all ad revenue has gone digital, etc. so once again people with already established and successful careers or who have other wealth can work in the field.
>>
>>221209576
So what's the definition of "rich"?
Middle and even lower-class people in Western countries are "rich" compared to like 75% of the planet's total population. So do they die too? Does literally everybody in the Western world except maybe literal crack-smoking hobos just die?
And what about the people that are "rich" in non-Western countries but aren't "rich" at all by Western standards? Do they die too?
>>
>>221215877
You don’t become a millionaire/billionaire/trillionaire by being a good person. It isn’t about just working hard or meritocracy either. It’s largely through breaking laws, exploitation of your workers and using government subsidies that you build such wealth.
>>
>>221215845
>Yet it's always these people who criticise the rich
You need to have a certain level of comfort in life to have deeper thoughts about societal issues.
Low-SES shitheels trying to juggle their drug addiction and 6 kids don't have time to think about how to make society better, their lives are a whirlwind of immediate problems and gratifications.

No, it’s the truth. Unless you got rich via the lottery it’s way more likely that any type of wealth in the modern day is built on sketchy business practices, some level of exploitation or fucking people and other shit that you can’t achieve just by “working hard”.

Yeah I agree with all of that but it just leaves a bad taste when "rich person bad" is such a common theme. Like it's just privileged people shitting on those who've done something they could never do, meanwhile anyone with a few brain cells can go to a great uni and get a job at guardian or whatever if you have pushy parents, grammar school etc.

>>221215958
I'm legit a young millionaire from investing in crypto/stocks. For starters those are all totally different things, it's not remotely hard to hit £1 mil (if doing it at age 70 counts) whereas trillionaire is harder than becoming the president or winning a Nobel prize.

Just having no morals or being privileged will not get you very far. The main thing is probably being able to think independently and come up with something no one has done before and/or execute this well, which sounds easy but it's not at all. Second is probably just working hard as fuck, I absolutely grinded/slummed it to have the money to invest in first place. Third probably resilience. Luck matters too of cours.

To become a billionaire you def have to be extremely smart/resilient/hard working and able to handle tonnes of stress. Privilege helps of course but I know tonnes of people from $80k a year schools and they never accomplish anything close.
>>
>>221215958
>>221216024
>You don't become "poor" in this modern and unprecedentedly prosperous age by being responsible, smart or a hard worker. It’s largely through drug-use, frivolous self-destructive spending, stupidity and lack of morals.

I can do that too.
>>
>>221216080
>Like it's just privileged people shitting on those who've done something they could never do
It's fair critique and if you engaged with it instead of taking it personally, you would probably actually agree. You think it's a personal attack against you, but you're just a gambling jeet and have nothing to do with the objects of that critique.
>>
>>221216080

I'm a medical doctor as well and can tell you for sure this was much easier and stuff like grammar/private schools, pushy parents, doctor parents etc are really common. Obviously you can't be dumb, but you don't have to be particularly bright either imo whereas you're just never getting to millionaire young without exceptional patients, resilience etc

>>221216080
Bezos is a billionaire because he makes his employees piss in bottles and shit in bags in the name of efficiency and fires you if you fail to endure the inhuman working requirements like penalising taking a bathroom break. Elon Musk already had a wealthy family and for him, just his tech bro comrades, the way to conduct business is all about breaking shit and expecting to get away with it later because you’re wealthy, ignoring environmental regulations and safety concerns of your employees and building most of your wealth by government subsidies and contracts instead of being a real innovator.

When one already has money it’s also exponentially easier to get wealthy than it is to raise from poverty. And with money comes connections and nepotism. You can attain certain level of wealth even today through work and decades but it’s ever shrinking pool of jobs that allows that to happen without requiring you to gamble, cheat or break laws to get there.

Bro I already have a small loan of £1 mil. For example any first worlder could have done what MrBeast did or as an even more extreme example Bonnie Blue rage baiting/stirring people up but you actually had to think of it which is hard.

>>221216209
I was at £1k NW age 12, £10k age 16, £25k age 18 (when I started investing) and was the top student by far at school despite awful home life. Luck can get any random dumbass to £10k or potentially £100k NW but it won't last.

You can easily become a millionaire within a decade by being a high-skilled professional. You can do it as a working-class person by owning your own business and having a solid strategy (and a bit of luck)

A million dollars in 2026 is not exactly a ridiculous amount of money.

The more wealth rich people hoard the less the poor end up having and the economy suffers from it.

Give a low income person hundred bucks, they will spend all of it on basic necessities and that feeds it into the economy. Give an already rich person hundred grand, they’re not going to spend that. Hell, they’re not going to even buy an extra macha latte at Starbucks, they’re more likely to just throw it to the stock market and then leverage the stocks for bank loans and only pay minimal interest.

you're just underlining the absurd class division of today. You equated rich people to forces of fucking nature, to natural disasters.

The answers to #1 and #3 are obviously yes to any honest person with basic common sense.
Wealth disparity is a drain to society at large. It causes the so-called fertility crisis (actually an economic crisis) and freezes social mobility.
>>
>>221219538
but anon, reproduction can't be an economic issue because poor people (provided with free food) breed lots and rich people not so much!
>>
>>221219538
The answer to the first question is no, don't need to be a millionaire to be happy. Plenty of rich people are not I"d bet. And the answer to the last question is yes, they do pay taxes. Quite a lot, more than you ever will earn. The top 1% in thr U.S. pays 40% of all income tax. We have the most progressive tax system in the world and you commies still want to eat the rich.
Ignorance and jealousy are all you have.

What is the difference between saving your money and hoarding your money?
>>
>>221216024
You should look at how much of the top 1% is dentists doctors and lawyers who are in good standing with their professional organization
>>
>>221221478
well, one is pointless and the other prints money.
>>
>>221220062
They should pay more because they keep getting tax cuts while they’re making more money in a day than most Americans have in savings. It’s absurd how much wealth the rich are gaining every year because they don’t even have to work, they can just take loans and that doesn’t get taxed also they never have ro pay. Trump didn’t pay any taxes for years. They’re actively cheating the tax system because they can afford people that help them hide it overseas.

As income disparity gets worse everything gets shittier and shittiers for everyone else because the rich ultimately don’t even know where to put their money while people are homeless, starving and barely making enough to put bread on the table let alone afford putting their kids through school. It’s disgusting how much you suck up to the rich
>>
>>221221512

>>
>>221218065
>So what are poor people going to spend a sudden extra $100, buddy? Drugs
yes. they're poor for a reason.
>>
>>221221624
There are shelter for homeless people and food support programs for the poor, including most public schools feeding kids multiple times a day. Poor people in America are generally obese and have a better quality of life than billions of other people globally. Also they do not pay any taxes. You argue like a socialist, a woman or a socialist "woman". All emotions, vague statements without evidence. If 1% paying 40% isn't enough for you then move to a socialist country, I'm sure you'll love it.

>>
>>221221829

>>
>>221221682
The top 1%, 5%, 10%, they're not all George Soros or Elon Musk. They are doctors who have had a practice for over 10 years. They're independent distributors of soft drinks for a territory. They're people who inherited their car dealership from their dad who inherited it from his dad.

Do you think UBI instead of the fairly generous benefits America provides to low income families would be better?
Or do you just think a wealth tax (which has backfired in every country that's tried it) is the only answer? Tear the whole system down perhaps?
You provide no real solutions, just childish whining that the world isn't fair.

>America

You literally have states in America making it as hard as possible to get apply, let alone receive any benefits from the government even when you are eligible for them.
>>
>>221222799
Thats the point. The 1% isn't mostly billionaires. It's mostly just white collar professionals who spent 8+ years in post secondary education
>>
>>221222825
The poorest states in America are as wealthy as the UK now.
>>
>>221222684
I thought you were talking about the top 1% of America. America is 342 million, so there would be 3.42 million people in the top 1%. You were talking about the global 1%? That would lower the income required to enter the top 1% massively.
>>
>>221222872
jesus its like its 2007 again, same old talking points over and over
>th-theres employees in the 1% s-so the elites should be allowed to c-control all the wealth!
exact same talking points for about 20 years now, despite the fact they convince no one.
>>
>>221222971
I didn't say anything about elites controlling all the wealth. I said that by definition if you are in the top 1% of income you should be an elite by definition. If you claim they are still slaves to the elite you are claiming they are slaves to themselves

Can you explain to me where you think the system is unfair?
>Jeff Bezos creates company, starts by selling books out of his garage, he's raised by a single Mom, puts out a service people use and allows hundreds of thousands if not millions of people to have jobs that wouldn't otherwise exist
>People like it, it becomes popular
>Goes public, groups like Pensions, banks, private citizens, all want a piece of Amazon, there's a limited supply of stocks so they drive up the price and let all kinds of people get a little piece of something they consider to have a big future.
>Since Bezos owned the company he created, his shares are valuable and he is the richest man on Earth
The previous richest man, Bill Gates, only reached that point by making billions more in value. Through standardizing operating systems globally, he allowed Japanese developers to sell software to Americans, for Germans to collaborate with Italy and South Korea, and this standardization allowed many businesses to become more productive, and survive where they otherwise would have died.

I thought the latter half of the 20th century was a competition between Soviet Communism/Socialism and American Capitalism. This economic military, scientific and cultural conflict was known as the Cold War.
The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics collapsed in the early 1990s, leaving the United States of America as the victor.
