But now these indie films are being expected to fill the hole that Kathleen Kennedy left in the heart of the TMZ. They still have to do all that other stuff, those rules haven't changed, but now they have to step into a hole they are nowhere big enough to fill.

And this thread is exactly the point here. People are celebrating big budget flops. Audience good will is fucking gone. Wonder Woman has the same problem all female superheros have, they can't cop a beatdown from a male character. Which means there are only two options:
1. She wins every fight with no real stakes
2. She fights other female characters

Her plotlines are therefore either your typical man with boobs snorefest (she does what superman does just not quite as well) or it's a story about her life learning to live as a human woman (which isn't even a superhero story).
