It was shit. De Niro can't act. Pacino sucks too but at least he has some on screen presence. The movie had some kino aesthetics but that isn't hard to find elsewhere in the 90's. Even the score was shit which was fitting because the big score heist wasn't even that great. Shit dialogue too. Bunch of NPC's glazing this movie for no fucking reason other than "i'm supposed to think this is great because hollywood big names".
>>221230547I preferred point break
>>221230547Its one of the most beautiful movies i have ever seen. Peak los angeles and background music.Peak atmostphere. Peak kilmer hair
>>221230574literally a superior flick>>221230587yeah there was kino but not enough to even come closing to making up for the movie sucking. and kilmer was barely in it.
luv me Kilmahluv me Pachinoluv me Mannsimple as
>>221230587>Peak background musicwhat a horrible take. can't think of movie off the top of my head that has the same vibe and does the score right but another LA cop movie, lethal weapon, mogs the fuck out of heat with its score
this was a particularly terrible scene. so horribly written and acted.
>>221230636https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QTlF-RlZ2RsLmao no. Lethal weapon gets mogged brutally
>>221230738this is so uninspired it could be right off one of those free use youtuber music playlists
it's just too long and scenes are of uneven qualitya couple scenes rise to greatness; the rest is mostly mediocre
>>221230636>lethal weaponLethal Weapon is childish slop and Mel can't act for shit. If you think the movies are good (like I did), watch them again (like I did) - they're utter dogshit.
>>221230547>the heist wasn't even that great>30 years later>people still talking about it>anon watched it once while scrolling his phon
I liked parts of it. With some heavy editing and a shorter runtime I think there's a good movie in there. Start by cutting Pacino's family stuff from the movie.
>>221230547Writing C-Action B-Cast A+
>>221231127can you read? i was talking about the score. but yeah you have shit taste because the first lethal weapon is great. and i did just rewatch it a couple months ago. on vhs on a crt because i'm not a fag. >>221231194aren't all of you faggots talking about euphoria? man i better go watch that must be really great
>>221231237>Cast A+sizemore and kilmer got like 4 minutes of screen time LOL
>>221230547could be like 40 mins shorter and lose nothing. The last half of the movie is boring as fuck
>>221230547Style over substance was a big thing through the 80s and 90s. It's not a bad movie, but it's extremely overrated and the aesthetics are what brings it to such a high status.
>>221230547Not only is De Niro terrible in this, but his romance in Heat is unironically the worst executed romance in all of cinema.
>>221231394Yeah I didn't give a shit about it at all. Kilmers story was far more kino.
>>221231339>The last half of the movie is boring as fuckand the first half was even more boring. >>221231365style over substance is way bigger now and has been for years so not sure what your point is. the thing is at least the style back then was actually good.
>>221230547The shootout was unparalleled kino. Every single other part fucking sucked.
>>221231446>unparalleledyea bullshit. it was pretty good. maybe even great. unparalleled? no. and it was mostly just because of the aesthetic that is what good.
>>221231437>style over substance is way bigger now and has been for yearsIt has? I honestly couldn't point to a movie from the last 15 years where I've thought something had more style than substance.
>>221231446I wasn't prepared for how fucking cool the shooting sounded
>>221231466that it was good*
Thief was better.
>>221231504freebasing kino
It is probably the quintessential guys movie that is actually good
>>221231243Nobody mentioned Euphoria until you did so maybe you’re the faggot.
>>221231594>too low IQ to understand such a basic rhetorical device
>>221230547It's too fucking long, way too long. Michael Mann has proven that he can make 44 minute episodes of Miami Vice, so why is every one of his movies too long to the point where it gets boring?Just bring in an outside editor and cut everything that doesn't belong to the main story, and you get a good 90 minute movie. Keep the heist, the break-in and the bank robbery and cut away all of that relationship problem bullshit.
>>221230547What other low IQ 20something zoomer takes do you have? I need a good laugh
>>221231194>>221231446There it is.
>>221231750i watched it on vhs on a crt. i'm peak millenial. but i'd love to hear how heat is actually a high IQ movie.
>Scene of De Niro's character driving through a lit tunnel whilst contemplating cutting his losses and escaping>clearly the intent is the light represents him being figuratively reborn and "seeing things in a new light", as he is given the opportunity to forget his revenge plan, cut his losses, and actually escape scot free>lolnope he goes back anyway to kill the guy who betrayed him, and gets caught and dieshated the ending. walks back the message of what was one of the best scenes in the movie.
>>221231847Wan’t that the point? He violated his own rule and died because of it. while Kilmer walked away and escaped.
>>221231847DeNiro was literally the one who told everybody to drop everything and walk away when they were drilling for that platinum(?) and the one cop wasn't careful and made some noise.
>>221231847>hated the ending.Loved it because De Niro was the worst actor in the entire movie and it would have been infuriating had he not died. Unfortunately that also means we had to suffer him being on screen for more time so it is a catch 22.
>>221230547LA Takedown is better
>>221232029I liked it. And that Buick Grand National was badass
>>221230574B A S E DASED
>>221231888my point was, the setup of that scene makes it look like he's truly had a revelation. the light is symbolism. he's being 'cleansed' of his sins, and comes out the other side of the tunnel as a new man. that's what the director was going for. but then throws it out by having him go back. why include that scene at all if you're going to undermine it ten minutes later? it adds nothing to the plot if he doesn't stick to it, it's just padding without payoff.
>>221231847view it in juxtaposition with thishttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6gLJ4_sfG8
>>221230574Point Break is more realistic than Heat. Yes, really.
Thief (1981) is a way better Michael Mann movie.
>>221232258As long as you watch the original non-remastered version.
>>221232150>that's what the director was going for.You can't be sure of that.
>>221232258>>221232279i didn't like Thiefbut Manhunter is my favourite movie of all time
>>221232409it was either that or he just felt like wasting five minutes of film of De Niro driving in silence. I'd like to give him the benefit of the doubt.
>>221232279I wish they'd have gone much closer to neutralI find this far less objectionable
>>221232483>but Manhunter is my favourite movie of all timeI'm just reading the wiki about the development and Noonan sounds like he's absolute kino. How's the gore though? I'm not huge on fucked up death scenes and shit.
>>221231608>makes a shitty unconvincing whataboutism argument that doesn't even apply to the thread>noooo it's listed as a valid rhetorical on the r/debates wikiYour rhetoric is only measured by how effective it is. You talk like a fag and your shit's all retarded.
>>221232523very little, it's more implied and you only see the character looking at photos of the murders in one scene briefly. I'd say it was the most beautiful movie ever made
>>221232579>>221232523Also, the biggest criticism was that it looked too good, and the music was too good
>>221232579>>221232616Incredibly based, I'll check it out. I can see it features a lot of Miami Vice actors and some stills from it have that look, so I'm very hype. I ahve to assume you've seen Miami Vice before but if you haven't, check it out, and specially watch the Castillo episodes. The night scenes are absolute kino.
>>221230547>WAGS subplots worthless without bith Deniro & Pacino mortally wounded on the Tarmac at the endPacino's the villain. He turns his back on the step daughter he cares about, and that's when the faceturn clicks for uncritical pigger idolators— everyone secretly wants them to make it out with the cash that's insured anyway, and printed & loaned to these banks out if thin air. It's purely nihilistic - instead of tragedy - with Pacino there coked out, the dog that caught the car. AND there wasn't the tension of Pacino being legally fucked with both how the ambush went hot (instead of just trailing them somewhere less densely populated), and specifically the Cowboy Hostage Headshot (ironically with a GALIL). Pacino needed the reputation face saving monomania motivation with the above to sell it. Absent that, the wives and girlfriends succubus the runtime AOL out of proportion to exposition and pacing
>>221230547it's okay anon eventually you'll grow out of having retard contrarian takes for no reason
>>221231127>likes Heat>dislikes Lethal Weapon
>>221230547De Niro, and Pacino are consistently the worst part of every movie they're in.
>>221232279
Contrarian threadNow Miami Vice (2006), that's a real piece of shit
>>221233759>Miami Vice (2006), that's a real piece of shitkys yourself faggot
In some ways I think Thief was much better although Heat was clearly a beautifully shot film, there isn’t any argument here.
>>221233770He's right. MV is one of the worst films I've ever seen.
>>221231394he is supposed to be someone who put business first. A felon who probably hadnt even had sex in more 20 years. He is playing an autist dedicated to his craft where nothing else matters,He was the only one who took the code seriously "dont have any attachments you cant drop in 30 seconds flat." Which is also why he fell so hard so fast. He finally made room in his life for something else and went all in at the first rip, just like a virgin would with the first slut he bangs. He played it perfectly you all all were just too retarded to understand the sub text/character motivation
>>221233817wow, another plebeian on /tv/, what a surprise
>>221231437>style over substance is way bigger now and has been for years so not sure what your point is.His point was obviously that this movie is a case of style over substance filmmaking, which he contextualised by stating that that kind of filmmaking was widespread during its time. Whether it's more or less popular at any other time such as e.g. today, has zero relevance to his statement
>>221230547shit opinion, not reading all dat, get raped by beaners.I rewatch this kino at least once a year
>>221230547>"i'm supposed to think this is great because hollywood big names".unironically yes, retards with terrible opinions should shut the fuck up and mindlessly repeat people much smarter than them
These HEAT hate threads are getting pretty fucking old at this point. Get a life, jungle nigger.
>>221233817Miami Vice works best as a moodpiece. The scene where that guy gets shot in slow motion in the car was kino. But the romance between sonny and the nip was cringe. Jamie fox was also cringe.
>>221234461also the opening boatrace is one of my favourite movie openings just on vibes
>>221234461The romance is terrible in all the "modern" Mann movies. Public Enemies is even worse.
Heat threads are so contentious.
That's with the Heat hate? Is it a zoomer thing?
yeah I was unimpressed watching it a year ago, I'm into all sorts of pre 21st century thrillers but this one didn't do it for me, I'd rather watch other Michael Mann movies, other Pacino movies, even most other De Niro movies. Waingro was great and yeah the shootout is too
>>221234504my dad was a bricklayer *humping sounds*
>>221232258agreed
>>221232523Noonan is great, gore is nothing. DESU you're going to be underwhelmed, the beginning is very slow
