What were they thinking? What was the cultural zeitgeist at the time that led to this?

I actually prefer the happy bubbly goth girl trope

We need to normalize people being able to express themselves but also respect them enough to trust they will be professional

>What was the cultural zeitgeist at the time that led to this?
An attempt to gentrify the goth/punk/emo movement that took over early Millennials in the 90s. We talk about Boomer hate now but those into these subcultures hated Boomers and the time with a passion way early on. Don't forget that young adult suicide hit a peak in the 90s until the last few years of the decade. We knew shit was fukt and Boomers were to blame and if you weren't in with the right breowds, you absolutely knew it was over. College, blue collar, whatever; you knew you were always trash and were gonna be treated as such. The end goal was to scare the shit out of Boomers for making the system we still suffer under today.

The Internet helped pacify these group but now that it has been turned to shit and isn't this magical Star Trek future we thought it was the suicide rates, Boomer hate, and feeling of hopelessness and rebelliousness of the 90s and of these cultures are returning.

Wasn't the actor in her 40s or something? How old was the character supposed to be?

>younger goth girl wants to have sex with older father figure
That's just real life though?

I had the opposite when I was 25, she was 34 and mid sex asks me to pull out and stick it in her ass and the second I did it she kept saying shit like "fuck mommy's ass" completely unprompted.

Not really rocket science anon. Dudes who see themselves as Gibbs want to fuck their daughters' alternative friend and in 2003 that girl was a mall goth/proto emo like Abby.
