The best documentary I've watched about Russia is the recent Adam Curtis one which compiles journalist footage from throughout the 80's and 90's with no commentary except for explanatory text. It's a really depressing series because it shows the death of any and all idealism in the USSR, the hope of soviet socialism,however slim, becoming rotted by corruption on an untold scale and Russians just giving up on politics entirely.
