Why is De Palma never in "greatest director" conversations?
>>
>>221243449
His movies are too cult, he's like a John Carpenter who made a bunch of 8/10s instead of a bunch of 10/10s.
>>
>>221243449
Phantom of the Paradise is bad
>>221243467
He's so much better than Carpenter, who basically has 3 excellent films, a couple good, and the rest shit.
>>
>>221243449
Phantom of the Paradise is honestly in my top 10 movies. It's so unique and unlike anything else I've seen.
>>221243467
Phantom and The Thing are flawless masterpieces.
desu, I think it's too gay and weird for normies and thats why only chicks every bring it up.
>>
>>221243467
he does have a lot of duds but Carrie, Dressed to Kill, Blow Out, Body Double and Hi Mom! are all perfect as well. Scarface and MI 1 are pretty close
>>
>>221243449
I remember reading a review and the critic said that De Palma was the world's oldest film student (I don't think he meant it as a positive)
>>
>>221243449
Idk but Femme Fatale is surprisingly underrated and it’s kind of a wild weird movie
I also liked Body Double

But I think it’s because he’s made good interesting movie but nothing that could be seen as a MASTERPIECe
>>
Because his films are cool.
>>
>>221243467
I enjoy Carpenter for what he is but cmon they aren't even remotely comparable in directing skill level
>>
>>221244113
Yeah, Capenter smokes De Palma.
>>
>>221244113
carpenter was an extremely childish writer and a very mature expert director. people might get those things confused.
>>
>>221243486
>Bonfire of the Vanities
>Mission to Mars
Let's not pretend De Palma doesn't have stinkers
>>
>>221243449
He should be but I think is reputation is tainted by how heavily and openly he stole from Hitchcock. So even though he was modernizing Hitchcock's style into a completely new one, he isn't given the credit.

Shock Treatment also fits that description.

Scarface, Carlito´s Way, Phantom of the Opera and Blow Out are actual 10/10s
>>
>>221243449
Kino
>>
Carlito's Way is really underrated I think.
Sean Penn is such a god tier actor.
>>
>>221249258
Bad director though.

Best DePalma girl? For me it's Carla Gogino in Snake Eyes, she made me outrageously horny. Those eyes, those lips, that body and that short hair are just a killer combo.
