>>221264444I get where you’re coming from, but I still see how it’s possible for techniques to be lost. It hit me while I was watching an episode of “How It’s Made.” I think it was one where they were making boat hulls. Of course, they were using all this nice equipment, but I found myself thinking, “That guy’s not really a craftsman. He’s an assembly line worker who only knows one specific way to do what he’s doing.” There we thousands of years worth of carpenters and shipwrights that did what that guy was doing, only they had nothing but their hands and simple tools. Now obviously that doesn’t make their way superior necessarily, but it does serve as an example of technology and techniques that have become lost, or at the very least not something one might reasonably expect to find on the internet. And even if you could find it, odds are the craftsman in question isn’t going to bother to lay out every aspect of what he’s doing.

Madagascar 1 is a good film
90s and 2000s 3D animated films would have typically been made by a lot of traditionally trained 2D artists/animators struggling to get the relatively clunky 3D animation software to accurately capture their 2D skills. Nowadays I would imagine that the majority of professional 3D animators can use the software very efficiently, but have very underdeveloped 2D drawing training/skills. That's not to say that 3D animators are inherently inferior, I just think there's an added level of creativity and understanding that's fostered when an artist has had the experience of creating the illusion of characters and objects existing (and moving) in a 3D space on a blank canvas.

As for why NASA didn't do MORE with manned exploration, its a simple as a double-tap of boondoggles. Go look at the actual development of the space shuttle, its a comedy of governmental incompetence where a bunch of different agencies and departments got involved making demands so they could ALSO use it. It resulted in obscene feature creep, compromise, and the end result being a piece of shit that didn't do anything anyone wanted. The original plan for the space shuttle program is that they would be created in a production line. Eventually the government got tired of burning money an we wound up with five prototypes (enterprise never went into space, but was just tested in atmosphere) that had to be torn down and rebuilt after every launch. After that was the space station Freedom, which was another case of a government project over running its budget and scope, constantly delayed, and so much cost had been sunk that eventually its bastardized compromise the ISS was put into service. Since so much money had been spent on the Shuttle AND the ISS NASA was forced to center all manned space exploration around them to justify the funding to keep them limping along. I wish I could find it but Zubrin gave a great interview about how nasa was basically hamstrung by those. When he was going to do the mars mission in the 00's, he figured out how to do it in two shots, but NASA insisted the ISS be central to the mission which means you had to make three trips to get the same payloads because braking at the ISS is a waste of fuel doesn't make any sense.
>>221276296A quick google search says that we don't use it even though it's been cracked because it takes years to fully cure, you can't put rebar in it, and so it takes too long and it's weaker than modern stuff. >>221277554>consumer hair travellel I just read something in the news the other day about another break through in making a commercial airliner that can "softly" break the sound barrier. The real problem with going hyper sonic is its really disruptive and there are only a few places where a pilot is allowed to do it. I remember being a kid in the carolinas there was a fighter pilot who was fucking around, or thought he was in the wrong place, and there was this massive sonic boom over the entire town while we were at school. And with international data being basically instantaneous and not bottlenecked to a handfull of transoceanic copper cables there isn't the same demand to get to europe or asia that fast. Especially when first class international travel on classier airlines is nicer than my dumpy little apartment.

The animation is fine, it's clearly modern tech with an aged up Shrek model. I don't see why people are soi-ing out over that. The real problem will always be the humour. The first Shrek is the closest to a timeless story following the fairy tale format but then the series nosedives immediately into referenceslop. Shrek 2 was hailed as a GOAT for about 10 years, don't go back to watch it now because about every single joke in that movie is some 2000's "current thing".The new Shrek will be the same but is fucked because the "current thing" jokes will be like 2 years out of date.
