What’s the nicest sword in all of television and film?
>>221264635that movie sucked
>>221264635sure isn't one of the ones that keeps having their points stabbed into the dirt and rocks and other random shit while the wielder uses it as a cane like a retard. these faggots take worse care of their swords than you do of your kitchen knives.

The rapiers in Princess Bride seem to skinny and weak for powerful sword fights. Yeah you can stab a dude and end it. Still lame for a movie.Longswords are where it's at. The heavier sword movements in Star Wars are kino, like it or not.Kill Bill (2003) is top-rank kino, though katana fights are pretty tame and built by the drama around the fight and not the fight itself.I think First Knight (1995) is a pretty good balance. Personally, I need a good balance of heft, finesse, and impacts.
>>221266958hehehe awesome
>>221265124i like that one as well. plus > the foe hammeris just bad ass
>>221267061its interesting to think about how boring and dull actual swordfighting wouldve been on a battlefield>breaking to catch your breath>sighing then lifting up your heavy sword to block>stalking around to find someones back and jabbing it in then pushing them over into the mudshit would not be as glorious as it's portrayed
>>221267132The actual "boring" part of battlefield combat is that you wouldn't even be using a sword as a primary weapon. You'd be holding a spear, a halberd or a poleaxe in a formation. Swords were basically a sidearm you only drew it if your primary polearm broke or the lines collapsed into a chaotic melee.
>>221267132This plus you barely ever pull your sword. Most of it is posturing and poking with long spears, hoping the other side turns their back and run so the archer chads can instantly claim the majority of the kill.If you’re using your sword so is everyone, it’s a wild melee and you’re not sure what’s happening.
Dracula's sword>>221267132They were probably mostly used to butcher the defenseless
>>221267132that's just dark souls shit with less rolling. people love those games
>>221267196>>221267261While this isn't fully untrue it feels disingenious of the "enlightened spearchads" to dismiss swords as merely sidearms. It is true that polearms are the more common weapon for almost all of history but swords are pretty much right behind. You have fucktons of period depictions of people fighting solely with swords, especially before late middle ages and development of common plate armor. Later on you will see swords that are absolutely too big to serve as sidearms. The situations aren't always as clear cut as two armies facing off on open battlefield. Fighting in limited space like a village or a town, spears do seem great in corridors too but without a buddy backing you up or space to maneuver it's much easier to have your spear controlled by the enemy.I've seen it claimed that lances and polearms were the "rifles" of medieval period and swords were "pistols" but I think it'd be more accurate if it was "machineguns" and "rifles" respectively. Maybe "rocket launchers" and "rifles" in case of lances and swords - once the lance is spent (and it will be spent and you can't really carry more than one and you have to go back to get more) the sword is your primary weapon.
>>221267196When people talk about medieval combat usually they're talking about knights, and if anything their primary weapon was the lance. But they trained extensively for sword combat because the likelihood of the lance being broken or lost or the knight being dismounted over the course of combat was fairly high, and swords were versatile and easy to carry.By the way nothing was boring about poleaxe combat. It was not a reach weapon but a specialized close combat weapon for heavy armor.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdVYW9r2G3U
He-Man
>>221264635>>221265152I've always been fond of Kane's sword from the third movie. It's an "evil" counterpart to Connor's katana, but it's got enough unique details that really sets it apart.
>>221268444a solid 80% of this type of content feels like they're just spitballing based on what feels comfortable and convenient to HEMAfags and lindybeige.i know there are some weapon technique codices left behind, like all the ones namedropped in the princess bride, but there doesn't seem to be any way to sort the ones that are based on historical sources from the ones that aren't, because, admittedly, hemafags and lindybeige sound pretty convincing.is this example of poleaxe combat based on historical documents or is it based on hemafags winging it?
>>221268605If you think about it, there's a fighting process for every weapon. A method to fight with it that is developed by practice and observation of combat with that weapon. It doesn't take long to discover how to best fight with any weapon, this wouldn't change over time. So as long as modern simulation combat is also observed and practiced to find the moves best suited for a victorious fight then you can be assured they were also the same methods used in the past. Who would have done the same practice and observation.
