In the myth, Prometheus gave humans intelligence. The top gods hated this and killed him for the crime. So why are people confused why a top Engineer hates what the one cunt made, given the movie title is 'Prometheus'?
I.e. is it really the case that people who have made 100 threads and long posts about how the movie doesn't explain things, have never thought to even look at the myth that the title is titled from? Like it never occurred to them it's not just a random word even though everything in movies is carefully chosen and the title being one of the most careful things?
>>221264821Considering it is shown how his DNA is broken down and spread around, I think the movie implied he gave intelligence to primates here unintentionally with his deathAs to why he died, idk, some sacrifice or sentence? or even an experiment
>>221264864 There's nothing unintentional, his sequence is presented very much in the way of a sacrifice ritual. While reflecting on this part, separately recall how unusually solitary his ritual is. There's no supporters, they don't even watch, he is 'dropped off' to do what he was going to do. This is in accordance with OP 'myth', this sacrifice is his individual intention, this isn't 'The Engineers' doing this.
>>221264821but if this one disintegrated himself, how would humans now a shit about them?
>>221264994Others have visited since. Aside from the cave paintings they verbally hint in the movie that one visited 'about 2000 years ago' (wink wink) and tried to redeem the humans but it went badly. Visiting after the fact doesn't in any way suggest endorsing what this guy did at the time or even after. You can observe things that you don't like
>>221264821In the myth, Prometheus gave fire, which is technology, not intelligence. Prometheus had such love for his creation of man that he rebelled against Zeus to bring them this tool. As punishment, Zeus chained Prometheus to a rock to have his liver torn out by an eagle every morning only to have it regenerate every night to be torn out and eaten again. The wrath of Zeus did not stop at Prometheus but extended to his brother Epimetheus and all mankind. Zeus ordered Hepeastus to mold Pandora from clay as a beautiful evil to torment mankind. Every god gave her a trait, beauty, grace, curiosity, the god Hermes gave her a decietful and manipulative nature. Prometheus had warned his brother that Zeus was vengeful and to never accept a gift from him, but stricken by her beauty he fell in love and married her. At their wedding she was gifted a jar by Zeus and instructed to never to open it, inside this jar wait disease, death, old age, hard labor, vice, crime and hope. As Zeus expected her curiosity got the best of her and she opened the jar releasing all the miseries upon the world while sealing it just in time to prevent hope's escape. (Prometheus also isn't killed, he is rescued by Hercules)
>>221265348I didn't ask for fanfiction
>>221265415I paraphrased it to the meaningful parts. Technology is equivalent to intelligence, they are concomitant and two different symbols for the same fact. You said it yourself 'his creation of man', so by giving technology (capability) i.e. intelligence, he made humans - beings that can act a bit like gods instead of being animals. >Prometheus also isn't killed, he is rescued We can agree that he was going against Zeus wishes and got in 'big trouble'
>>221265574What part of the post is speculation?
>>221264844Yes. People would rather refuse to understand just so they can treat the movie as an absolutely insane laughingstock of a failure, and they will do this for ten thousand years at a time. This board is designed to destroy your intelligence and sense of association (everything means something and you’ve been brainwashed into thinking it doesn’t)
>>221264821Except, based on the cave paintings, it appears the other Engineers "invited" them to the star system.
>>221264821Prometheus showed humans how to make fire. He was then crucified at the order of the gods so he flooded the land upon his death to put out all the fires and then in Prometheus Unbound he rose again.
>>221266088>Prometheus UnboundThis is not a greek myth this is like saying that norse mythology is whatever Thor does in marvel comics
>>221264821People are retarded.
>Oh my God.... this goo*SHLUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURP*>i.... ive never tasted something so.........*GULP* *GULP* *GULP *GULP**GULP* *GULP* *GULP *GULP**GULP* *GULP* *GULP *GULP**GULP* *GULP* *GULP *GULP**GULP* *GULP* *GULP *GULP*
>>221266032That story was like two Midwestern state college C students smoked weed for the first time and then spent a night trying to out-2deep4u each other
>>221266032It follows from the paintings that other Engineers than Prometheus have visited Earth, yes. Must those ones have aligned to the (main?), 'Engineer view' that humans are an abomination? Dissent and initiative is shown to be a thing that can happen with Engineers, since we have Prometheus as an example.
When you're planning on rewatching prometheus you obviously get some monster drink but what about Covenant? what should I be eating with that?
>>221264821Referencing stories that are old is the highest peak of midwit retardation>dude it's so deep, get it? it's just like a story from 2000 years ago! I even named it after that one! get it? they ride a ship and the ship is called theseus and the theme of the movie is whether or not this thing is the same thing after the parts have been changed. Get it? It's smart because I just used another guy's story!Kill midwitsRape midwitsYou wouldn't even understand what the fuck happened in Prometheus if the movie was not called Prometheus. The entire movie hinges on the fact that you know what Prometheus is and that you will think the movie is deep and well written because it referenced Prometheus. The work doesn't stand on itself. If the story of Prometheus gets forgotten and people in the future find this movie with no frame of reference, they won't understand it because they don't have a Greek mythology to reference. That's retarded.
this 2/10 dogshit movie is still discussed just because it touches on history channel documentary topics like ancient aliens
>>221268126Tell it to mary shelley
>>221268255I would tell the cunt if she was alive. Frankenstein is a terrible story and it's exactly the kind of midwittery I am talking about. The story is nothing like the movie and the movie shows what people actually like. People liked that there was this big undead monster terrorizing people and they liked the name ''Frankenstein.'' So that's what Frankenstein became. Just a movie about a big dumb green monster who everyone calls Frankenstein while redditors seethe ''ree, that's the name of the doctor, not the monster.''
He was shooting at God
>>221268278they had a big lumbering undead white monster terrorizing people who everyone calls "Prometheus" in the ridley movie, but you just seethe ree about that
>>221268327Midwit meltieIt proves my point. Movie sucked. Story sucked. People liked the design of the big white bodybuilders. It's exactly like Frankenstein.
Prometheus the semigod was such an idiot, im glad Zeus kicked His ass
>>221268366I dunno man, for some reason you decided to hold Prometheus to the standard of full "intellectual work" when it's just a movie like Alien but instead of "what if there was something incomprehensibly 'other' ", the scare is "what if WE are some guy's Frankenstein tier project". The only reason you need this literature stuff is to add the layer that his society thinks we're just as horrific as ours would a re-animated bodyparts Frankenstein monster. It's just a layer of horror for a horror movie it's not meant to be some fuckin new philosophy that oversteps the limits of conventional thought
>>221264955that's a bit unwarranted conclusionit's a possibility but only a possibilitythe other is this was simply expected of him and they don't bring fanfare to itwhy would they drop him off and leave
>>221268449Don't care. I know what Midwit Scott was going for and why he named the movie that. Total midwit death.
...My name Prometh.
I didn't like these movies that much.
