I had seen the Pom I character around the web for years but literally never heard of The Amazing Digital Circus until I saw the Fortnite collab on Monday. By Thursday I had bought a ticket to the finale in theaters - first one since covid.

I havnt had time to simmer over it for months/years but my hot takes:

That could easily be part of the "they stay in the Circus" ending. And it would've been so simple. Pomni (and maybe the others) finally give Jax the love/friendship/acceptance he needs, he unabstracts, he realizes what the key to unabstracting people is, he unabstracts Ribbit and Kaufmo and apologizes for being a piece of shit, cut to a montage of the current cast and all the previous humans, and maybe now even NPCs like Gummigoo, Orbs Man, and a few of the mannequins all hanging out together, making it one big happy Amazing Digital Community. Show the characters going on adventures in new combinations, showing the current group getting along with and integrating with the old characters and the NPCs, etc. Instead of the weird "Jax is dead and we're not even real but whatever we're okay with that cause Caine's not an asshole anymore and we got a doghouse for Abstracted-Jax so things are cool now."

I honestly preferred it when abstraction meant suicide and thought that the whole "there's still a little piece of them in the monster" thing was probably even a bit too happy because it left open the possibility that maybe Pomni could figure out how to "save" the abstracted people.

I guess it's hard for that to be the takeaway when Jax doesn't really... do anything that fucked up? Like Ribbit's and Kaufmo's fates are just as much on them as they are Jax (Jax was definitely an asshole for turning his back on them, but they had other friends, including each other). And when it comes to the current cast, as far as I remember, he was just sort of in general "the asshole friend." Zooble, the one who probably hated him the most, never really gave him anything worse than a shaking of her fist and a "Oh, you knock that off now, you!" and she outwardly tells him to his face that, despite everything, she doesn't want him to die. So yeah, while Jax was definitely a jerk who needed to change his ways, it's also a little hard to accept that he deserved eternal body horror death.
