Not to mention in DB death has meaning and they even draw the fights rather than just stating that the movements are too fast for the naked eye. DBZ main accomplishment, if you want to call it that, was Goku´s first SSJ transformation, Tori did some terrific build up for it so it still feels fantastic. The tradeoff of making Goku an alien is too steep though and both Shenron and Kuririn´s deaths have been done before so they lack the same emotional impact. The problem is that later on transformations and power levels become common place replacing techniques and ingenuity in fighting. Exploration is also abandoned in both Cell and Boo arcs. At that point is not even about the dragon balls anymore, they just become a convenient plot device to render death and consequences meaningless. Z also changes Goku´s personality. He used to be a clueless curious monkey, not a retard. His innocence and simplicity also made it pretty easy for him to tell good and evil apart however by Z he is more like a battle maniac willing to put everyone at risk for a good fight and has internalized that everyone can be brought back with the dragon balls anyways. >TL;DR No. The original DB rates higher as an entry level anime and even then there are better non entry level ones.
