Is it worth watching 30 years later? It seems like the first season was a critical favorite in the 90's, but is largely forgotten today.

Season one is definitely worth watching. Season two is hit or miss as they changed format to doing mini series "arcs" after ER kicked the shows ass in the ratings so hard, that half the cast quit, including the bald guy who was the main character...

It was a big-budget network TV legal drama, but with the idea of doing a season-long story (a single murder case) instead of a different case each week. This formula was blamed for low ratings, and was apparently changed in the second season.

TLDR

It was a heavily hyped ABC show that came out the same year ER did and was aired initially at the same time as ER. ABC was super cocky it was going to beat ER but ER killed Murder One in the ratings so utterly that ABC flinched and moved it to another time slot.

Part of the hype was that it was a show where the entire season was dedicated to a single case (with tons of filler to pad out the full season run). The main case/story involves Stanley Tucci of Devil Wears Prada fame as a corrupt Hollywood producer who secretly has AIDS and murdered a former lover who dumped him right before he caught AIDS for reasons and framing an innocent himbo struggling actor for the deed and pretty much using his power and influence to try and kill the guy when his legal team find out that he's been framed and the victim's sister is helping Tucci frame the guy because the sister loves Tucci and thinks helping him frame an innocent with make him marry her.

Then what>>221270116 said happened. Season two lost the bulk of the cast and aired in batches of three 3-4 episode batches, each dedicated to a single case like a mini series as a desperate retool but the damage was done and the show cancelled
