hi reddo
The transporter doesn't do that

>hi reddo
>The transporter doesn't do that
you arent tricking me, computer
>>
>>221283541
literally no other possible explanation
>>
The soul is eternal, death is illusion. If it's the same form it's the same form.
>>
>>221283485
I never understood why it was never used as an offensive weapon. You could just transport steel beams into the middle of your opponents ship causing mass casualties and hull breaches.
>>
>>221283695
i could be wrong but i swear VOY did something like that with a bomb. it could probably be handwaved with an excuse like warp capable factions with transporter tech probably perhaps having easily available counter-measures, but its also easy to imagine klingons not giving a fuck and using that to do war crimes on lesser races and subjegating them. since the tech seemed wonky to begin with, given how prone it was to accidental scrambled transported codes or how much power it seemed to consume
>>
>>221283695
I believe theres a famous book series where one of the weapons on the sci fi ships are basically transporters that swap atoms and can cause instant nuclear detonations on other ships due to this

Someone probably has way more accurate info

The transporter is safe, effective, and trusted by Federation doctors. Don't listen to dangerous conspiracy theories.
>>
>>221283695
>>221283860
Shields are supposed to block transporting but sometimes the writers forget that.
>>
>>221283695
Stargate SG1 does this and the Asgardians get all pissy about it. Apparently its bad form.
>>
>>221283541
i bet you believe you can upload your mind to the cloud to live forever
>>
>>221283695
didn't ozymandias do it in watchmen, teleport the squid into a place, it explodes due to being in the same space as other matter and its death throes kill everyone
>>
>>221283992
Yes, that's what made me think of it, he says that teleportation works fine assuming you want what you teleported to explode when it rematerializes. In watchmen Jon is able to stop this effect with his " guiding mind" but ozymandias either can't duplicate this or doesn't try because he's just using it to blow shit up

>i bet you believe you can upload your mind to the cloud to live forever
You could, but you wouldn't experience it.
>>

The copies got mixed together.

Ship of theseus your brain by replacing one cell at a time with a nano machine

And during a failed Windows update, they accidently erase you. But on the plus side:
> to make up for it, here's a $20 gift card to Sears
>>
>>221283901
Don't they have to drop their shields to fire their weapons?
>>
>>221284529
you’re still dead you just have a hard time saying when in the middle

>Lock onto enemies.
>Transport upper-half of their bodies elsewhere.
>(or just their dicks.)
>>
>>221285968
Or transport the entire crew together into one giant fleshy mass.
>>
>>221283485
If you replaced every part of your cell phone with identical new parts over the course of a year, would it be the same phone you bought? Then if you took all the parts you removed and reassembled them into a complete phone, would that be a new phone or the same old one?

Post your number so we can text you our answers

This means every time I transport I am a new man, free of the burden of the accumulated sins and debts of the previous iteration.
>>
>>221283860
They did it to the Borg iirc but the only reason it worked was because it was close enough to some sensitive part that caused a cascade to the warpcore or something I can't remember.
>>
>>221286173
Voyager really nerfed the Borg to death.
>>
>>221283657
The soul is just the life of a creature. It’s the difference between someone 5 min before and 5 min after dying.
>>
God I wish I could us a "teleporter"

>implying this doesn't happen every time you go to sleep
Maybe even every second of the day. Continuity is an illusion and consciousness is a hallucination is largely a post-processing construct. So who cares?

>oh nooooo the real me technically died just now and I was instantly born 0 seconds ago in an adult body with all of my memories creating a perfectly seamless experience so I have no way of telling the difference except for academic chin-stroking ahhhhhhh help me
There's work to do. Get moving.
>>
>>221286342
I think they mean that the transporters create a clone of you, and the you with your consciousness ceases to exist.
>>
>>221286414
>original doesn't care (dead)

>hey babe you're technically a different person so I'm going to ask you out again but it's actually for the first time and you can't tell me you already said no and it can't be harassment because this is our first encounter
awesome
>>
>>221283485
Debunked.

>>221283695
Shields block transporter beams and everyone has shields so in order to do any shenanigans you have to shoot them until they're mostly dead anyway.

>>221284605
No? that would be stupid.
>>
>>221286414
The consciousness continues from the copy. It literally doesn't matter that there's a "gap". No one can perceive that gap so it doesn't make any difference at all. Souls do not exist.
>>
This is only a problem if you believe in having a soul and the responses here show this site is now just fedora-tipping atheist redditors.
>>
>>221283915
Shit, the thing that made me a Stargate fan was watching every nigga on the Daedalus always talk about talking down shields or Wraith jamming so they could teleport nukes aboard the ship. It was THE finishing move in those shows.
>>
>>221283485
Per Picard S3, it doesn't even really copy you. It fills the generic parts of your DNA with generic noise.
>>
>>221283932
I bet you think the instance of you that wakes up tomorrow after you go to sleep tonight is you?

You die every night. The 'you' that wakes up in the morning is another instance. The proof it isn't an unbroken continuious consciousness is that no one remembers the moment they fall asleep.
>>
>>221287219
I remember falling asleep after fapping to AI lolis. Checkmate atheists.
>>
>>221287219
It’s not the same comparison, me staying me is much more likely when we’re not talking about a complete disintegration of my molecular structure.
>>
>>221283630
Yes there is. It does exactly as it says.
You can believe in fictional elements like gods, aliens and competent women but a teleportation machine that just teleports you is too much?
>>
>>221287035
>Soul
Listen here retard.
If I reshape matter into an exact duplicate of you, including the physical structure of your brain which forms your consciousness, then put a bullet in the original you's empty skull, does that mean you're only still alive if you believe in religion? Or does that just make you a dead retard?
>>
>>221283485
in star trek it beams the exact same atoms over
>>221283900
when it makes clones its only from freak space accidents
>>
>>221287317
Why would molecules need to be the same? Why not go even smaller. Do you worry about whether the electrons in your brain are the same electrons? It's not even clear that electrons have meaningfully different identities. What about quantum field excitations? What does "disintegration" or "reintegration" mean at that scale?
>>
>>221283932
You can, just just need to press ctrl x instead of ctrl c.
>>
>>221287219
