I was told that this is the greatest TV show of all time, so I started watching it.
So far it's:
>Hood rat shit
>Cops complaining about their jobs
>Constant dick-measuring contests
and it's all boring as sin.
When does it get good?
>>
Season 2. Then its back to being shit for the rest of the seasons.

>When does it get good?
When they get the wire up and running
>>
>>221284723
only white people say this
>>
>>221284723
First two seasons and season 4 were kino
Third season was retarded as fuck with the whole Hamsterdam shit. Fifth one was so fucking boring with the newspaper arc
>>
>>221284837
The problem with season 5 wasn't the newspaper. It was the retarded Red Ribbon killer shit and the characters involved with that acting so uncharacteristically.
>>
>>221284907
Red Ribbon Army? that sound kino! just like my animes
>>
I'm watching the 1st season of The Wire and I just got done watching the episode where DeAngelo teaches the younger kids chess. I was blown away! I had to watch it a couple times to really pick up on it, but did you guys realize that when he was teaching them about the chess pieces, he was really referring to THEM being the pawns! What an amazing metaphor!

It was so deep and meaningful, I am amazed by the deep symbolism of this.

Do the later seasons continue on with masterful symbolism like this? This was truly the pinnacle of storytelling that I have ever seen on a television show, and I think I can confidently say The Wire is the best show ever made without even having seen the entire series.

Also the acting is amazing. Idris Elba and Dominic West do a great job with their Baltimore accents.

I look at it like a comedy drama, like the sopranos
>>
the black hood people in the first season were the only good part about this show
oh and i guess when they gave the fag black guy super powers, that was also pretty unintentionally hilarious
>>

>When does it get good?
s01e01

>I understood the symbolism, therefore it's not good symbolism
bit of a self-report

>When does it get good?
The first time s1e10
The second time is s1e1

OP here with a follow-up question:
Do blacks like this show more than whites? I feel like there's something I'm just not understanding about it.
>>
>>221286191
More than whites? Probably not. I don't see it as a "black show".
>I feel like there's something I'm just not understanding about it.
The show builds and adds layers onto itself, with different pieces connecting and themes emerging. It's a big world with lots of characters. It starts slow on your first watch, but you pick up things you missed on your second watch.

I unironically think that blacks should go back to their containment continent, but The Wire is one of my favorite shows.

>tv
>good
>>

>>hood rat shit

Is that a criticism?

Whites wrote plays about the middle ages which is equivalent to 'hood rat shit'. There have been prolly a dozen ghetto Hamlets.
>>
>>221286191
blacks don't watch the wire lol
>>
>>221284907
Yeah there's no way Lester would've ever helped McNulty in that scheme.
>>
>>221285915
This is 100% correct.
>>
>>221284659
You have to power through season 1 to get to the glory that is season 2. Then when you watch the whole series, you go back and watch season 1 and this time it will be kino I promise.

Season 2 is the biggest boring pile of dogshit every shown on TV.

I've always been baffled by this too. It has to be larping.
It's not awful but the level of praise does not make sense.
>>
>>221284659
The first time I tried to watch it, I didn't like the characters so I couldn't relate to their problems. But eventually I started to sympathize with them and it became good. Now, upon rewatches, the boring administrative conflicts are actually kino to me. I like how the show attempted to capture the chaotic yet apathetic nature of local government bureaucracy. I engage with a lot of those through work and, while IRL people are not nearly as nasty or careless, there is certainly truth in the portrayal. Not sure any other show achieved that.

The parts I fucking hate about the show is the stuff a lot of people find exciting. Like the MCU tier shit with Omar or Mouzone, or fiction that is completely detached from reality like "the greeks". There are a lot of goofy cringe moments. But it is overall a good show and the only one that compares in rewatchability to The Sopranos.
