As an American man I appreciate being too proud to eat shit even if it costs lives in the end.
>>
>>221299028
bro their people invented mutually assured destruction
>>
>>221299028
You're fucking retarded.
The movie is about how society's core values, and the responsibility of adults towards children, completely fall apart in a crisis, and is laid bare as hypocrisy and stark self-interest above all else.
It is about the failure of adults and the failure of society.
>>
>i know we committed unimaginable atrocities in Nanking but God forbid two kids of ours die a quick painless death
only way this cartoon could make me feel pity for them is if the little girl had cannabalized her brother
>>
>>221299028
I don’t think anything has made me feel more feels.

>>221299028
Threadly reminder that the aunt did nothing wrong
>>

All he had to do was chores or get a job or just apologize to the woman.

>>221299244
They literally slowly starve to death you fucking dumb nigger

>shits miserable
>cant help but vent and be miserable
>still put out when no one else could/would
honestly true

Am I the only nigga that wasn't even slightly remotely sad in any way over this? Maybe if you have a younger sibling it would hit harder. I remember it was notoriously le saddest movie of all time on reddit for like a decade

YOU TOOK MY ONLY FOOD

NOW IM GONNA STARVE

>reddit found it sad so i had to go in knowing to not care about something because reddit has an opinion on it
you went in on the wrong pretenses
>>
What fucks me up is that it's basically the director working through his survivors guilt of being unable to take care of his little sister and watching her starve to death under more or less the same circumstances.

Boiling hot bitch tears everytime.
>>
>>221301012
Erm this was like 2011 reddit when I thought it was the coolest site on earth. So actually I went in expecting it to be sad because I trusted reddits opinion over anything else
>>
>>221299244
>Nanking
Chinks aren't people.
>>
>>221299215
It's actually about how specifically the Japanese are hypocritical monsters
>>
>>221299481
The aunt's children were actually embarrassed their mother was giving all the high protein cooked food to them instead of their much younger cousins.
>>
>>221301312
>Some Jap monsters killed Chinese children therefore it's not sad when entire unrelated Japanese children suffer and die.
>>
>>221301374
American cognitive dissonance. They can't handle the thought of the Allies not being squeaky clean good guys
>>
>>221300935
I feel that way about all movies nowadays. I think feeling sad at a movie is just kind of childish unless you directly relate to the issue the character is dealing with.
>>
>>221299215
>You're fucking retarded

With all due respect sir, I'm not the one with the dead sister.
>>
>>221302489
Maybe the brother should've gotten a job?
>>
What was Hirohito's tax policy?
>>
>>221300935
Did you watch the English dub?

Japanese version is much sadder because Setsuko sounds much younger, a baby basically.

I do think the sadness is overrated because the ending feels like a very avoidable outcome.

I was honestly expecting them to be hit with the Oppenheimer special.
>>
>>221299517
>just apologize to the woman
For doing nothing wrong? Fuck that.
>>
>>221303011
Not many jobs going in a city that's literally burned to the ground and had half its population murdered.
>>
>>221303677
wasn't he literally offered a job in the movie?
