Why is it important that he asked calmly? Why not just write "he asked"?
>>
>>221314130
To show that Dumbledore was calm about the matter and not losing his shit like everyone else.
>>
>>221314164
in the move he lost his cool though so the book is full of poop, possibly full of shit and feces too
>>
>>221314177
Did you know they used to use magic to make their shit disappear

They'd just shit on the floor and magic it away.

Is this was indians are trying and failing to do every single time they go to the bathroom?
>>

>Is this was indians
good morning sir
>>
>>221314130
Dumbledore’s personality in the book is WILDLY different in the books than in the movies where Michael Gambon plays him. Richard Harris’s Dumbledore was much closer.

if it wasnt for all the adverbs and adjectives to fluff it out the whole saga would be 2 paragraphs.

There's no special intent in it. It's just that dumb writers rely on adverbs a little too much.

It served to re-establish several important parts of Dumbledore's character.
First, he is not an overemotional person, nor is he given to panic. He is calm during a crisis. Changing the scene like the movie does makes him seem over emotional.
Second, he is a fair and fatherly figure for the children beneath his care, concerned for their wellbeing but willing to afford them the chance to admit to their mistakes and explain themselves, rather than overreacting. The movie, on the other hand, makes him seem unfair and harsh.
Third, being the kind he is, he likely suspected Harry would be drawn into the tournament in some way or another because Riddle coveted it, and because Harry is linked to Riddle, literally having a piece of the dude's soul in him. So the subtext of this scene, on reread/rewatch, should be that Dumbledore is trying to determine if the piece of Riddle's soul within Harry was able to influence Harry's thoughts and actions, or if something else is going on. In either case, he doesn't want to alert his enemies to his suspicions, because working against them will be easier if they believe him to be oblivious to their plots, whatever those might be. The movie's version, however, immediately draws attention and flags this as something that has come to Dumbledore's attention rather than slipped beneath it, and thus costs him the element of surprise.

What's wrong with that?
It effectively communicates his manner without wasting an entire sentence on his expression and/or tone.
Would you rather a scene where none of the character's emotional states are described at all?
>>
>>221314335
the ability to be succinct is a sign of high intelligence
>>
>>221314360
>It effectively communicates
Just say "it communicates", it means the same thing
>>
>>221314394
Answer the question, if you actually have an answer.
>>
>>221314164
Yeah. I think it was important to describe that Dumbledore calmed down after he pieced Harry up with that nasty six punch combo

Wow twitter must be full of geniuses then. You should go back there, be among your own kind.

Are you that one guy who argued on the official wiki that Veela didn't exist in the canon because they're not in the movies, only the books?

So you don't have a response and you're just mindlessly repeating 'adverbs bad' because you heard someone else say it? Fantastic to know, thanks for your contributions. Next time try forming your own opinions instead of regurgitating those of others.
>>
>PASS THE TREACLE TART MINERVA!

He bellowed calmly.
>>
>>221314247
It's a pity, because Gambon's personality is pretty close to Dumbledore, which is clearly why he was cast. I'll never figure out why he decided to play him as an angry old man.

Jackass

This. I could see Michael Gambon feeling that the situation required a more spirited reaction, but he fundamentally misunderstood the reserved, wise, and restrained nature of the original character. He was such a hard turn from the understated elegance of Richard Harris. He kind of seemed a little too sassy for the role.
I doubt Lithgow will be much better.
>>
>>221314304
You're a dumb gay hysterical faggalo
>>
>>221314623
you really are an insufferable faggot aren't you, you said understated elegance lmao
>>
>>221314247
Correction - Gambon only was that weird in Goblet.
In Prisoner he was okay.
In Order he was okay.
In Prince he was a good book Dumbledore.

Okay nerd. I've never seen the movies

It demonstrates how Dumbledore is always in control.
He already knew that Harry hadn't put his name in.
