This is so boring on the second rewatch. Musicians are incredibly dull, narcissistic assholes.

Lars Ullrich is the epitome of a mediocre musician being carried by a great band.

>>
>>221348082
Metallica is the Bruce Lee of Heavy Metal. How good they are is irrelevant. They're the reason millions of people got into the genre and it's not close.

Master of Puppets. This probably helped inspire so many metal bands to start.
Enter Sandman. This probably caused so many guitarists to start playing
Fight Fire With Fire. Brutality in 1984.
For Whom The Bell Tolls. Bass revolutionized
Fade To Black. Who said Metal couldn't be sad?
Creeping Death. Widely argued to be among the pioneers of the Breakdown
One. That Machine Gun riff.
Nothing Else Matters. I mean, it's their biggest song, I can't argue with that
Battery. Opened one of the most important metal albums ever.
Hit the Lights. Opened the album that kickstarted the Thrash arms race
I agree with the purists on Load/Reload being too long and diluted with filler and didn't like the rebrand or the move away from their metal roots but if the band had merged the best songs from each album into one album and purged the filler you would have Until it Sleeps/King Nothing/Bleeding Me/Fuel/Memory Remains/Unforgiven 2 on the same album which would have made it one of the best rock albums of all time.

After this they basically sold out entirely and became a bunch of sober family men and the music suffered for it. Lars went on his napster kike campaign, Newstead got booted, St. Anger was trash. No Leaf Clover, Whiskey in The Jar, Turn The Page were decent tracks but not worth the price of the albums. Calling them overrated isn't fair. Calling them a disappointment might be.
>>
>>221348392
Shut up, Lars. Go back to the senior home.
>>
>>221348082
They were all mediocre except Kurt and Cliff and frankly Kurt wasn't elite, he just struck gold a few times. They owe their producers a lot of credit.

>>221348000
Kind of true. Kill em all was a great metal album. It turned to prog metal after he left. Then it turned to butt rock when cliff died. It's been a steady decline in quality.
>>
>>221348082
Lars in his prime was a perfectly decent drummer that fit the Metallica sound perfectly. He was also legitimately great at composing songs (but admittedly completely retarded at mixing them) and he was directly responsible for like 5 of their best songs. Metallica is kino and I'm tired of pretending their not. They still put on great shows and record new music and actually try. Most bands just phone it in these days.

You're wrong, you stupid faggot. It's certainly not straight metal so what would you call it, genre autist? There is a clear distinction between kill em all and all their other albums. Megadeth kept the same trajectory as kill em all so obviously dave was the creative force behind that album. I just can't believe any stupid retard would say call of ktulu wasn't progressive.
>>
>>221348740
Another good one. I'm not even complaining. I like their instrumentals. It's just that they're certainly progressive no matter what that retard's narrowly defined definition of progressive might be.
>>
>>221348759
It's not progressive it's MELODIC YOU FUCKING RETARD
>>
>>221348805
Adding melodies to metal is indeed progressing the genre, you smoothbrain fuck. Those are not metal songs. The difference between the pure metal of kill em all and the next three albums should be clear to anyone with working ears and a functioning brain. They progressed the genre of metal by adding those melodies. Dumb fucking retard.
>>
>>221348832
Kill em All was THRASH metal, all of their other good albums are simply metal. You are retarded.
>>
>>221348884
Wrong. They sound nothing like pantera or slayer or older metal like judas priest or iron maiden. You're a genre autist and you fucking disgust me. No one would listen to their instrumentals and think, "wow, now this is metal!" Your definitions are gay just like you.

Dave's sound was the foundation of the albums that made the band famous. He's inarguably one of the top 5 metal guitarists of all time and some people would have him number one.

Dave the first two, cliff the next 2. It's ironic his name was cliff because that's what their creativity fell off when he died.

Dave is way better than Kirk but his leads fucking suck. He has one guitar solo that he has been playing since 1982. Riffs, writing, playing while singing it's not even close but Kirk was so much better in Metallica
>>
>>221349515
I like kill em all the most despite coming out 5 years before I was born. They weren't dad rock until the black album.
>>
>>221349526
I don't think so. Kirk solos don't have soul. They sound good but there's something superficial about them. Dave solos always feel like they're taking you on a journey and I appreciate that.
>>
>>221349319
For all the credit that James/Lars get for writing the songs, Dave/Cliff/Jason were the ones who really created the sound, and they're the ones who vetoed a lot of the stupid shit.

Lars becoming the primary songwriter in the mid 90s fucking KILLED their sound. His favorite band was Deep Purple for totalkikedeath's sake.

>>
>>221350897
His talent is completely wasted in Metallica, but he's getting paid
>>
>>221347970
I feel like I'm going crazy because nobody seems to know what I'm taking about but WHY did they change their guitar tone in the 90s to something twangier and decided to never changed it back?

If you listen to something like Seattle 1989, their guitars sound fucking HUGE and extremely distorted. Pure metal. But then compare it to how their guitars sound today at any live show and it's just so odd sounding, like the guitars sound like they belong to some diet-hard rock band instead of metal and I hate how it sounds on the thrashy songs.

Metallica is a good but not great band carried by Lars being an insanely good business man. Even when they were first starting out in the early 80s they were the clear most popular metal band in the bay area and that wasn't because they were the best, it was because Lars was circulating demo tapes all over the place. They already had a huge underground following before Kill Em All even came out. Lars kept at it too, he was the one who picked Bob Rock and pushed for Enter Sandman to be the lead single for the black album. He's the biggest reason why they're as big as they are and it's not due to his talent on the drums, it's his talent in making deals.
>>
>>221354392

Lars has always been more of a music fan than a musician. He was a roadie for NWOBHM bands and mostly thanks to his rich dad had a huge record collection. posting this before reading the thread but:
I saw Metallica perform live, and watching Lars hyped me up. He typically looks like he's enjoying what he's doing, which can be infectious and matter more than technicality. Hetfield was great in St. Anger. Makes me mad that Lars sandbagged what would've really been their best song in years
>Fuck it all and fucking no regrets, I hit the lights on these dark sets
>Put down your noose, I'll hang myself
>St. Anger 'round my neck
