It's the fate of all movies that rely heavily on bedazzling the audience with the newest fanciest CGI.

The effects usually age very quickly and when people re-evaluate the movie based solely on its script, acting and direction, they usually realized it's actually a shit movie. That's what happened to the Star Wars prequels and also Matrix 2 and 3.
