>1994 Flintstones movie was a big hit, the film sold a fair amount of merchandise as well. The production was through Amblin Entertainment, which Steven Spielberg was a founder. John Goodman feared being typecast and pleaded to not do more. This stalled the sequels and eventually resulted in the prequel "Viva Rock Vegas">Matthew McConaughey was getting offers to do numerous rom com movies, with salaries over $10m. He turned them down and took a 2 year stall in his career till he landed the Lincoln Lawyer.
michael keaton walked away from $15 million for batman forever when they fired his nigga tim burton, which would be something like $35 million today
return to innocence HAEEYAEYAEEU OOOAEEYYAEY OWEEAYYEA
Goodman was smart, the prequel stunk. He even did a joke about it on an SNL opening monologue.
>>221361858When this film came out and I saw how they had exactly replicated the Flintstones intro, I did whatever the 1990s child version of a Soiface was.
>>221362074They had entirely different movies planned for sequels. They wanted to film them back to back 2 and 3. He essentially made the whole cast lose millions.
>>221361979Remeber what they took from you
>>221361943The Batman forever script was apparently pretty similar when Michael Keaton was still attached.
>>221361858Matt Damon turned down the lead role in Avatar because he was filming Jason Bourne. He would've gotten a percent of the box office. He missed out on hundreds of millions of dollars, multiple times his net worth.
>>221362165she's got me rock hard!
>>221362165>How do you like your coffee?
need to smell Halle's caramel cave pussy if I'm honest
>>221361858To be honest, Goodman was the best alive actor to be Fred, considering Jackie Gleason was dead and would have been too old anyway. Fun fact time: when the movie was dubbed in Quebec, people there asked for Goodman to be dubbed by the Quebec animated Fred actor (same for the rest of cast) but the local dubber's guild and Hollywood said no. Main problem is the person who dubs Goodman in Quebec is the voice of the lottery commission there so our dub ended up sounding like a lottery draw.
This was such perfect casting, minus Betty
>>221362259I don't remember making this post..
I've tried to watch Viva Rock Vegas a couple times but the opening 5 minutes or so reminds me so much of a salvia trip I had as a teenager that I cannot watch it without being overwhelmed with intense anxiety and dread. I actually feel a lump in my throat and my heart beating fast just thinking about it. I know I could just fast forward it but I'm scared that the rest of the movie will trigger those flashbacks too. I've never had a movie give me this feeling before or since.
>>221361858Besides Betty this movie was well castedified
>>221363031Rick Moranis as Barney is actually terrible. No one cares though cause everyone likes Rick Moranis. Ted Danson or Dan Aykroyd would have been better fit for the character, but they changed the character because of the casting. Apparently Aykrody was considered for Fred tho.
>>221362133based>just take the cheque and keep working, come on goodman, be a good goyman
>>221362165I got an eROCKtion
>>221363268Ted and Dan are both too big to play Barney
>>221363323Ted Danson looks like a caveman though, dude is clearly not fully evolved.
Charleston Heston originally turned down the Planet of the Apes sequel and only agreed to do it if 1. He was written out of 90% of the movie & 2. The movie ended with everyone dying so no more sequels
>>221363145The Great Gazoo has to be the worst Hannah Barberra character. He's even worse than Scrappy Doo.
>>221361858>STOP GIVING ME THESE BIG PAYCHECKS!yeah, he really did lots of interesting stuff instead... like... the roseanne reboot
>>221363684Let me introduce you to Gleek
>>221363031>minus BettyThat's is like saying a sandwich was perfect minus the wet turd in the middle. Like I agree but at the same time Rosie O'Donnell as Betty was an absolutely absurd fumble. It felt like a deliberate "fuck you" to the audience.
>>221363771Hard disagree. Super Friends wasn't a good show, that character was just one of many problems. The Flintstones was a great show before Gazoo showed up and ruined everything.
>>221361858Goodman was so sour and asshurt about being in this movie
>>221364004I cant remember if it was Jay Leno or what, but he brings out a Fred Flinstone doll and John looks really uncomfortable about it. He's such a pussy.
>>221363268>Rick Moranis as Barney is actually terribleAgree with this, the character has NOTHING of cartoonBarney and it's clear it was changed to suit Moranis. I don't think it's a terrible character or makes the movie bad for it though, it works well enough. but you see a lot of people saying this movie had the "perfect casting" when that's absolutely not true for anyone outside of the Flinstones core family and Mr. Slate.Barney was completely changed, Betty was terrible, BamBam isn't too different but still noticeable, and Pearl is a completely different character too.Yeah, Fred and Wilma were aces, but they're not the only actors in the movie.
>>221361858I dont think I ever seen anyone actually say this movie is good. I agree that Fred was good casting, but everyone else was not great. They also put so much effort into a movie that ended up having one of the lamest plots a cartoon can have. The type of episode where the main character gets rich and acts like an asshole to everyone until he loses everything.
>>221364004He really was. It's just kind of stupid to me as an actor to think doing it or more would have ruined his career. By this time he'd already worked with the Coens. He also seemingly did paycheck kids movies anyway with The Borrowers and all the voice work he did. I get actors not really wanting to be in big special effects heavy toy commercial type movies, but it's gotta have some major pros to it too.
>>221361858Chappelle turning down $50 million and roaching off to Africa was a big one.
>>221361979<3
>>221364317He ended up making way more money than that from his shitty standup specials on Netflix.
>>221363684They brought him back as Q in Star Trek.
>>221364340his sketch comedy was better than his stand up.
>>221363031Who could they have cast instead? Winona Rider?
>>221361943Based Keaton.
>>221364438>prime Winona barefootYes.A thousand times yes.
>>221364340>implying that's the real Chappelle
>>221364317He got like $100 mil for his netflix stuff.
Steven Spielberg want Harrison Ford as Alan Grant in Jurassic Park, Ford turned him down to do The Fugitive instead. Probably for the best, I dont think Ford would have been as good as Sam Neil in that role.
>>221364438Not sure how old she was but Winona would probably only need to watch a couple of episodes to get her laugh down.
>>221364495>Steven Spielberg want Harrison Ford as Alan Grant in Jurassic ParkThis is just nepotism because I can't see anyone else in that role and Harrison would've probably made the movie worse. Could you imagine that asshole learning to like kids again like you believe Sam does?
>>221364528That's apparently what won Rosie the role, and she had the signature giggle.
>>221364495Bullet dodge. Ford would have been terrible for it. Fugitive was a good for him instead.
>>221362165Sweet Jeebus.
>>221362165Yeah, $3 McDonalds meals.
>>221364438Good God yes.
>>221364495>as good as Sam Neil I immediately picked up on him being a discount Harrison Ford.
>>221364721Ford is an asshole. Neil is a cool dude and a much better actor.
>>221361858>>Matthew McConaughey was getting offers to do numerous rom com movies, with salaries over $10m. He turned them down and took a 2 year stall in his career till he landed the Lincoln Lawyer. He did Killer Joe around that time and thats when critics took notice.
>>221364775Fords a good actor in the roles he's done but I agree Sam Neil is underrated. I've never seen a film he was in that I didn't like.
>>221364798For sure, Killer Joe came out like 6 years before Lincoln Lawyer and KJ is the movie that changed my opinion of McBongo.
>>221364798>>221364892It went Lincoln Lawyer (2011), Killer Joe(2012), and then Mud(2013). It was a strong streak to get him away from girlfriend rom com movies. He very successfully rebranded himself.
>>221364543I don't see Ford pulling off the role either. Ford seems like a lone wolf and not a team player. The humble and quietness that Sam Neil brought to it as well. He was a doctor, not a charismatic action man, but explains things to calm kids. It's wonderful casting and we're all lucky Ford knew he was wrong for it.
rick moronis stopped working for 30 years because muh kids
>>221364494great.is the thread title: "Times when actors took a shit ton of money to do Netflix specials"?
>>221363684Cut your neck open, dumdum
>>221364034Also Rosie O’Donell really doesn’t look the part. She’s too fat and her face doesn’t fit the character (name escapes me)
>>221365349Ladies and gentlemen, we found the world's only Great Gazoo fan.
They should reboot live action FlintstonesWho should they get to play the main cast?
>>221361858>John Goodman feared being typecastAs what? A caveman?
>>221364004Probably came at a time in his career when he was particularly touchy about a future of being simply typecast as the fat oaf.
>>221364892>>221364892>KJ is the movie that changed my opinion of McBongo.absolutely same here
>>221365612a sitcom dad because of Roseanne I'm guessing
>>221362165i'm the hardest guy in history
>>221362173did sam worthington get the same percentage deal? if so, he is the luckiest man in hollywood history
>>221365612As a fat guy.
>>221365591A fat black man and woman in their 60s should play pebbles and bambam without any explanation
>>221365749I read an article about it a long while ago and just recounted what I remembered. I just asked ChatGPT though and it says that Cameron denied such a deal was ever on the table for Damon.
>>221362231
>>221363145Watch Toys.
>>221365591Kevin James could use some work.
>>221364806When Ford tries, he's amazing. When he doesn't care he's fucking abysmal. Like go watch Air Force One and tell me Ford's acting is good in that movie.
>>221365776they could not actually give damon an offer, he wasnt available.
>>221361943Chad
>>221366108I sometimes forget that Gunn started his career with Troma and once had balls to speak his mind like this. He so sanitized when he talks about DC (which honestly is the only time I ever see him talking now, on fuck Bluesky of all places.)
>>221365275one of his kids was disabled and he cared for him, most notable work was gettting suckerpunched by a nigger in New York. it's said to appear in spaceballs 2 tho
>>221362165I've never found her very attractive. She was pushed because she's a rare black woman that isn't ugly.
>>221363684And DC has Mr. Mxppltyl
Madeleine Stowe should have been Betty
>>221366675can she do the laugh? this thread is being too hard on fatfuck Rosie imo
>>221366929I love to see Rosie just pop up in random movies like in Fatal Instinct.
>>221366154I don't know how he could possibly talk down on Nolan's trilogy after the Superman Gunn put out
>>221361979Why dont they say "only 11.59" now if its just inflation?
>>221364361Q is how to write that characterbut good
Didn't will Smith turn down the matrix to do wild wild west
>>221361858Goodman didn't want to play Fred to begin with. Spielberg announced in front of a bunch of executives with Goodman present that he'd accepted the part before he actually had, and Goodman felt like he couldn't turn it down at that point without making an enemy out of Spielberg. In other words, he got Jewed into it.
>>221368420yes
>>221366154I mean in Super one of his characters openly called someone a nigger
>>221368420he turned down the lead roles for Django Unchained and Inception as well
Richard Gere owns his career to Travolta
>>221368724And always for stupid egotistical reasons. Not the real lead in Django my ass. That one pisses me off because it fucked up the whole concept of the Visiona Romantica trilogy and ended it early.
>>221368762I hole-heartedly agree
>>221368565He could have gotten out of it. He actually was in a great position to get a huge paycheck. If he wasn't signed his agent could have made him bank, which is probably why he did end up doing it.
>>221361858They should do a Flintstones movie, but set in the far future where Jurassic World is canon and some kind of mega disaster like a pole shift set human society back a couple thousand years. The descendants of the survivors have cargo-cult type replicas of old tech.
>>221369052Isn't this the Pixar universe lore?
>>221362165>>221362231even has a super horny pre-teen, her tits in swordfish did nothing for me.looks better with clothes on
>>221361858>Well chee Fred, you kinda screwed us on the movie deal
>>221365591Chalamet as Fred
>>221364340He left the show because his stand up was an indication that he was tapped out after the first season of his show. The mixed bagged second season showed that
>>221365755It worked. He got cast as a finger instead. What a step up from Viva RockvVegas

>>221367454they do
>>221362165We still have niggers anon.
>>221362074The prequel was made because he refused to do more. Is this the power of modern education? The inability to actually read and comprehend words?

>>221369981he was also originally supposed to be Dave in 2001 before Kubrick decided not to use big name actors
I’d imagine a good number of comedic actors over the years have gotten their big break because Bill Murray was MIA somewhere.
>>221362132back then we were in genuine awe, not the "oooh" like monkeys that sois do.The difference is in the eyes, in sois they do not convey emotions, at least not positive ones. it's always the fucking smugness that came after the 2000s
