I loved it. First movie I watched twice in a few weeks for as long as I can remember.

I just saw this movie for the first time, loved it. Most modern scifi really lacks the sense of wonder older scifi has, it feels like it's depicting "scifi setting" instead of "real people experiencing scifi stuff which is fascinating and beautiful". Project Hail Mary is the first new scifi movie in a long time(at least that I've actually seen) that actually takes time to linger on stuff like beautiful views or aspects of alien life that are meant to be interesting rather than plot devices or jokes. Most modern scifi feels like it's made for people who don't give a shit about scifi and just want to see stories set in the future or space, Hail Mary feels like actual scifi. Also it looked amazing, it's refreshing seeing a movie actually give a shit about lighting and color grading again.I'm having a hard time really expressing why I liked this movie so much and why it stands out in the 2020s so much, I think the best way to put it is that this is the first scifi movie in years that feels like it was made by actual human beings with souls who genuinely gave a shit about what they were working on and were emotionally invested in it.

The Rock crab people will inevitably kill and dissect Grace right?

>>221364125I just watched it and it's been a while since I liked a movie this much. Felt like a very enjoyable 8.5 movie throughout the entire thing. My only critique is that there were a few times where it felt like the writing was a bit rushed and they skipped over some things too quickly.I went into it thinking that it was probably going to be pretty meh because there have been so many disappointing movies in the last couple of years, but I was pleasantly surprised.
>>221365666Satan approves. I had no idea what this movie was when I got it. thought it would be another Ad Astra but with Goose but then a silly rock guy shows up
When you think about it, despite all the talk of the movie being "hopeful" the ending is actually pretty dark. Only Earth and Crab Planet actually got the cure. Every other star in the galaxy is still going to be blotted out and every other life sustaining planet will die. Future Human and Crab space explorers will find only cold dead worlds serving as grim tombstones for extinct civilizations.
>>221365995In my headcanon the rock dudes went around saving other planets.
>>221365995Retard>In Project Hail Mary, the alien microbe "Astrophage" only consumes a tiny fraction of a star's energy to reproduce, typically dimming a star by just a few percentage points. While this mild dimming is catastrophic for life-bearing planets within those star systems (like Earth and Erid), the stars themselves remain intact and continue burning for billions of years.
>>221366371>While this mild dimming is catastrophic for life-bearing planetsYeah that's what I said retard.
>>221366371Still if they see this spreading over the milky way presumably its fucked up other civilizations.
>>221364125>>221364161i loved it. i am literally globally suspended from readdit. amaze amaze amaze!
>>221364125
It's for kids, and there's nothing wrong with that.
>>221365767Ad Astra if the movie remembered space is cool and didn't spend 2 hours crying about daddy issues. Rocky mogged the entire human cast, unironically.
>>221364125>why won't you watch 2.5 HOURS of lets saiyans the SHIT out of this SHIT quirk chungus slopNah I'm good bro
>>221365523The only real problem I have with the movie is that the science is tremendously stupid. It was as bad in Interstellar, but at least it wasn't so much of the focus.
>>221364125>reddit dogshit wuirk chiùungus childish quipshit "I love le science" funko pop marvel movie>people with 90+ IQ hate itYes?
>>221365523A pity about characters, dialogue and story. Which make it a bad movie.
>>221365523Same, it celebrated the wonder of the universe and exploration although it's difficult and dangerous. Felt like a classic sci fi movie from the past. It's basically I hoped Interstellar would be, but that film had the space and science there to serve the drama, rather than driving it if you know what I mean.

The main character and his relationship with alien was a bit too reddit for me. It's been a while since I got the same "foam adventure" vibes from a movie.
