Why is this movie so beloved? It's barely better than Crystal and Dial. Anyone who says this is on par with Raiders or god forbid the best one is smoking crack
>>
It was my favorite as a kid but watching it as an adult aware of the Temple of Doom controversy its impossible to not view this film as damage control. It feels like an overly safe and more family friendly sequel
>>
>>221364700
>templefags are filtered by last crusade
LMAO!
>>
>>221364700
Never saw the first two (or the last two)
>>

I hate that this board is so much slower than it used to be, but there's still pressure to create ridiculous OP bait to ensure replies.
For a group that decries the death of sincerity in movies and tv (when criticizing Millennial writers), you sure like to propagate "irony" and trolling to generate engagement.

Now check my quads and shut the fuck up, because you know I'm goddamn right.

>It's barely better than Crystal and Dial.

I 100% agree with you on this, but there is no arguing with childhood nostalgia. It's beloved because a certain generation watched it as children, and it seemed good to them at the time. And that means they must worship it forever, and can never change their minds.
>>
>>221364700
Hot Nazi chick.
>>
>>221364700
I unironically think it is better than Raiders of the Lost Ark.
>>
>>221364700
It’s not barely better than crystal skull, it’s simpler but Connery and Fords charisma carries the movie hard and is a great ending to a series
>>
>>221365626
I unironically think you're trolling. Raiders was the only high-quality film in the series. The sequels were all lazy cash-grabs.
>>
>>221364700
only problem I had with Crystal was Harrison Ford was too fucking old for the role.
>>
The last act is great and thats what people remember, the rest of the film is pretty ass

Hated trope:
>noble antagonist (not villain) instantly forgives the protagonist when they discover they have shared goals, despite the fact that the protagonist just killed several of their team
>>
>>221364700
>barely better than Crystal and Dial
Be serious. Dial was not only a bad Indy movie, it was a bad movie PERIOD
>>
>>221365676
>The last act is great and thats what people remember

I don't like the last act of Crusade, because it seems like a rehash of Raiders. Everyone remembers the scene in Raiders where the Nazi's face is melted off, and in Crusade, very similarly, we get another face-melting scene at the end.
>>
>>221365693
The pieces of a good Indy film were there but it had dogshit editing and pacing, action scenes go on for half an hour while the fun treasure hunting scenes are like 5 minutes long. Reeks of studio focus testing
>>

Do you dislike the similar face-melting scene in Crystal Skull, or do you not care as much because it doesn't help your shitty argument?
>inb4 n-n-no, that's dIfFeReNt
>>
>>221365827
I don't know why you think I'm a Crystal Skull defender. I said it before: Raiders was the only good one, the sequels were all lazy cash-grabs. Including Crystal Skull.
>>
>>221365555
its by far the weakest of the trilogy anon
its you whos the tasteless retard
nice quads btw
>>
>>221365968
>I don't know why you think I'm a Crystal Skull defender
>I said it before: the sequels were all lazy cash-grabs
Maybe because we're all anonymous and, even though you said it here (>>221365668), it's not apparent you held that opinion based on the string of posts and replies.
>>
>>221365968
nah temple fuckin rips bro cmon now
>>
>>221366003
>its by far the weakest of the trilogy anon
But, surely you see that's a much more moderate and probably genuine opinion (that I happen to agree with) that would never generate as many replies as OP?
And please don't pretend to misunderstand or strawman me for further engagement. I've got to go to bed soon and it's not going to help your case or significantly generate replies for the thread.
>>
>>221364700
It's a fantastic movie, you fucking pleb. Bringing Indy's dad into the mix results in a great dynamic and adds a lot to his character. Also, this is the movie that MADE Marcus Brody, he was barely a character before this and now he's beloved. Also, it finally addressed a Christian legend after doing the Jewish and Hindu ones. And they bring Sallah back, and Sallah is the fucking man.

Everything about this film is great, fuck you OP.
>>
>>221365750
>The pieces of a good Indy film were there but it had dogshit editing and
It was dead on arrival because nobody looked forward to PWB berating geriatric Indy for 2 hours
And despite the movie involving fucking time travel the villains were Nazis for the hundredth time
>>
>>221366026
Don't even talk to me about Temple. I don't want to get into that.

>Hey wouldn't it be great if Indy was a screwball comedy? And there should be gross-out humour, and he should have an irritating kid sidekick too, right?
>>
>>221366103
...oh and also we need to rip off James Bond in Octopussy. Everyone loves Bond right?
>>
>>221366275
Spielberg is eternally seething he couldn't direct a Bond flick as an American.
>>
>>221364700
The kino quality of Temple of Doom only continues to retroactively multiply as the world is increasingly exposed to the barbarity and filth of Hinduism.
>>
>>221364700
Anyone who says Temple of Doom is better than Raiders of the Lost Art is smoking crack.
>>
>>221364700
Raiders 8/10
Temple of Doom 4/10
Last Crusade 6/10
Crystal Skull 6/10

Franchise is very overrated outside of the first one
>>
>>221364700
This movie is my comfort movie, and it's for completely irrational reasons.
I will say one thing though: the score of this films FUCKS.
Whenever I'm going through a tough period in life, I drink a bunch of whiskey, put on Last Crusade, and shitpost on 4chan.

OP's lack of taste is superseded only by his faggotry.
>>

>The sequels were all lazy cash-grabs.
none of the sequels are as good but none were lazy cash grabs, more like "increasingly off-the-mark and misguided", sort of like the Star Wars movies after the first
>>
Raiders > Last Crusade > Crystal Skull > Temple >>> Dial
>>
>>221367733
Crystal Skull was one of the last movies I saw in theaters with my grandmother. I like it.
>>
it's second best in the entire franchise. Raiders is the clear first
>>
>Raiders 9/10
kino from start to finish
>Temple 5/10
great opening, great fight scenes at the end, Mola Ram is a kino villain; Indian setting and Willie are atrocious
>Crusade 8/10
dynamic between father and son is perfect, gets back on track with a recognizable artifact and clear villain goals; downside is more of the same with Nazis being the villains again
>Crystal Skull 2/10
ugly CGI slop, nobody knows or gives a fuck about South American alien shit; Mutt had potential as a character early on but they fumbled it as the movie goes on
>Dial 1/10
Indy humiliation ritual where he's a sad and lonely old man, is overshadowed by awful sidekicks, stupid plot device with time travel (pure desperation to make it "different") and much more CGI slop
>>
>>221365100
This, the movie is artistically weak. George was right to want every Indie adventure to be self contained but Spielberg just rehashed Raiders cause he's a pussy
Raiders>Temple>Crystal>Crusade>Dial
>>
Turning Indie from a mythological hero into a normal dude with daddy issues was lame
>>
>>221365626
I do too. It's a fun adventure
All the way through. Plus, the first 15 minutes with river Phoenix are kino and its own mini movie
