It made for a satisfying payoff when blinded by rage bearing down on Clark to kill him he for the first time in ages looks upon the face of a mere mortal man, mask broken, without abstraction or intermediary. I understand how for an average summer blockbuster audience who isn't paying very good attention, the sequence could come across goofy or hard to decipher but I really appreciated it.
