It's exactly why they were forced to have the Vong come from outside the galaxy and be so weird so they could actually be considered a threat. Back then fans weren't so caught up on one singular continuity so authors were free to explore then the fandom could cut and prune what they decided as canon. It was still fun to have non-canon what-ifs. JJ and his ilk did ZERO prep work for a trilogy long story. JJ shat out a dumb single story, Rian farted out a moronic continuation that closed off everything rather than raising the stakes like the second part of a trilogy should, then the third director noped out and JJ just emergency reached for any popular thing in star war could find and forced it to fit. There's no point trying to pretend it makes sense nor be coherent.
The Revenge of the Sith novelization is pretty good.
