>>221372520The most striking thing to me on a rewatch is how incompetent Christoff is as a writer and director. The wife is a terrible in-universe character. She is so obviously bland and cold. The best friend character too. Nothing in the in-universe show has any heart except Truman. And that's not how good TV works. The movie set up Truman's decision to leave as choosing reality over a comfortable lie, but as I see it he chose to leave only because it fucking sucks. The scene at the end when Christoff is talking to Truman is especially revealing. He talks about Truman like he's his kid instead of an artistic creation. He doesn't understand Truman as a character at all, because at some point he stopped thinking about it as a story.
