>An alien invasion has wiped out most of humanity and the survivors are forced to fight for their lives on a sadistic intergalactic game show. Sounds bad, right? Now try doing it barefooted and with a stuck-up, self-centered, tiara-wearing talking cat as your partner. Welcome to Dungeon Crawler World: Earth, where the apocalypse will be televised, and Coast Guard veteran Carl finds himself stuck with his ex-girlfriend’s award-winning show cat, Princess Donut the Queen Anne Chonk, as they try to survive the end of the world, fighting monsters, aliens, an insane A.I. and even other survivors, all for the sake of good TV. Survival is optional. Entertainment is not.https://deadline.com/2026/06/dungeon-crawler-carl-tv-series-peacock-seth-macfarlane-matt-dinniman-1236962525/

I've read these books because a female friend of mine really pushed them on me. She said they're "exactly my sense of humor". This turned out to really hurt my feelings, because it's the most Reddit thing I've ever read in my life. I did end up going through all of them though, so fuck me I guess. I tried to make her read Book of the New Sun and she wouldn't fucking do it.The adaptation sounds hopeless from a budget perspective. The book is so full of outlandish nonhuman characters and crazy set pieces that doing it live would be a cgi nightmare and cost a fucking ton to produce. Maybe it could work as a 2d animated cartoon, which the kind of person who enjoys these books is probably into anyway. They've seemed to become a minor cultural phenom inside nerd circles, which is mystifying (I'd prefer if something like Between two Fires had caught on if I got to pick winners for genre poplit) but I'm glad the public is reading SOMETHING. There's not a chance that this is enjoyable to watch.
