It needed to jump straight into the past RPG arc quicker, as it's a weaker arc as it is, so going into it from filler arc after filler arc just made it feel anticlimactic. Yu-gi-oh had lost a lot of steam by the time the original series ended. It's not like it was on top of the world, then GX just ruined it. The cracks were already showing.GX was a chance to bring the series back, but the notion of a school for dueling was so stupid and there were no stakes to anything. The original series had some real weight to it's stories and characters, and GX was like>here's a dueling monkey. You need to beat it in a card gameGX was a wet fart for the first 75% of it's run, even though in hindsight it's campy stupidity kind of ended up being it's whole appeal, especially in the face of 5D's which came after. It's weird, but GX at the time being a continuation of the original series sucked, but as a stand alone comedy it's pretty fun.

Everything else forgoes that for futurism instead. Although I will give credit to ARCV for the pendulum summoning mechanic being in line with the original Yugioh themeing.

Have every single card in the game and no banned lists at all, just make whatever deck you want. Instant GOTYI still get the yugioh itch sometimes but I'm not going to play fucking master duel with its mmo meta deck ranked bullshit.
