They could have done alien arachnid or insects from another galaxy. Heck they could have done something like crusaders from another galaxy. Like an actual competent Human empire from another Galaxy invades the Milky way and wants to conquer it. They aren't misguided or worshipping a false God. Just people who want to conquer and win. Have it be like 40K where they are on a great crusade to conquer Galaxies. Heck you could have a situation where the only way to win is to rely on the Goual'd or team up with them. An ironic twist where enemies must team up.
