interestingly enough the black and white pattern makes zebra harder to be bitten by gadflies/horseflies. They key in on dark vertical surfaces reflecting certain wavelengths and the alternating black white pattern fries the stupid flies brain and they can't land on the legs. It acts like dazzle camo to the bugs landing system.
