Nobody really cares for Avatar. It´s culturally irrelevant. The same is true for those Planet of the apes movies. In fact, one could argue the current generation either lacks artistic cultural identity in general or the voices to express it. I can´t think of a single new director that could be considered an author with a clearly defined style. This generation is better defined by obvious social engineering and big IP milking which is why the movies themselves are hardly ever discussed anymore. People make their statements around box office results or discuss the political ideas and themes the movies address but not the movies themselves. True enough Cameron is more subtle and proficient than the regular hacks so his movies are undoubtedly better but they are still just alright serviceable movies and not particularly memorable. Maybe the original Avatar had some value but this certainly didn´t require 3 movies.
