I'm rewatching Start-Up! and I know there's one anon who has seen it too. I just finished episode 2 again and I'll explain why the right man won:

>Nam Do San, after having been explained the situation, chose to help Dal-Mi faster than Village Chief Hong. Village Chief Hong wrote all those letters that comforted Dal Mi, and he knew about it the whole time and waited until the very last minute to decide to help Dal Mi because he is a loner, perfectionist and selfish as an instinct (and part of hus character).

Dal Mi had a case of mistaken identity with Nam Do San believing he wrote all those letters to her long ago, but it was Village Chief Hong. And yet even then, it wasn't Village Chief Hong but Dal Mi's grandfather who is the real author. The love in those letters are Chief's Hong's narration expression her grandmother's love. Since Chief Hong didn't love her in the first place (and too late) he wasn't cucked. Where as Nam Do San very quickly stepped up with nothing but himself and support from his friends. It's a decision he made in days after being informed of a 15 year on-going situation.

And even with mistaken identity, Dal Mi saw Do San and chose him. Dal Mi and Do San chose each other, bottom line, and the circumstances don't matter all that much. After they chose each other is when the real relationship began.

When Chief Hong is telling Do San to let Dal Mi down gently before cutting her off, Chief Hong talks like hes run through half the woman population in Seoul already and is exasperated by Do San's lack of experience. How can it be true love with Chief Hong and Dal Mi, even if Chief Hong is the co-author of these letters, if in hiatus Chief Hong has been running through the available pool of women? Chief Hong cheated on Dal Mi's love since he read every letter and had them for 15 years, and he was busy.

In Start-Up! the right man won, they are first loves, and actually is a good romance.

CTLBT felt wholesome and eye pleasing throughout the entire stretch minus the second lead couple. The FL unlike any other drama is very open about her issues and admit her condition quickly without the dragging ego. You can clearly see her being so down to earth all time. May be I'm alone in this, but I rate this drama as one of my favs of 2026.
My Royal Nemesis on the other hand is just a compilation of induced situations so that ML can romance FL. Proper Girl-Fantasy things which indeed worked out well and became viral. I realised I wasted time when they streched out the romance parts too much in last few episodes.

I think you nailed My Royal Nemesis. I thought it was entertaining to watch Im Ji Yeon until the couple was official. Last 4 episodes a cobbled together mess as you describe.

I also think CTLBT one of the best so far this year. Agree the second couple didn't add anything. The portrayal of the mentally ill FL, especially her alter ego, including the hallucination sequences, really well done. I think it missed as a "savior" romance. The FL clearly suffered for years from mental illness without professional help. The message is no matter how sick you become, how erratic the behavior to yourself and others, swinging from deep depression to mania, you just need romance. Someone to stand there alone and clean up the mess.

I've made it almost 50 eps into Princess Aurora without skipping/fast forwarding. None of the characters are particularly likeable outside the the SML (got rocks for brains) and the dog, but there's always some stupid bullshit going on which makes it pretty watchable as far as daily dramas go.
