Very nice lore (actually kind of weird how involved it gets) and continuity between episodes, but that was some of the worst acting ever broadcast on tv.
>>
what is this? I have various memories of shitty sci-fi and lost world movies on AMC all merging together from when I watched them in the early 1990s with my grandfather
>>
I wouldn't say worst, theres far FAR more horrible stuff if you look but it was wooden i'll agree. I think really though it's because the family itself wasn't really the crux of the whole thing, the land and its inhabitants were, like you said about the lore. That's what always got me, the Sleestak and Enik expecially being a time displaced member of their race, the dinos and the pylons and just all of it.

Land of the Lost. Used to air on Sat mornings in the US in the 70's
>>
how did surviving land of the lost fans react to the news that a netflix reboot is in the works
>>
>>221388467
that's an interesting point, it was never about them and they're only there to take us to that world
>>
>>221388494
I must have seen it on scifi or metv then

Fuck lore. I want a story with badass action and fun characters.

well, land of the lost has that if you can get past the special effects

I'm still angry that when they decided to bring it back and made that movie in 2010 or whenever that was, they made it a goofy comedy.

Arnold turned into a trooned out sellout faggot though

Season 1&2 were really good and actually had a few episodes written by famous scifi authors.
Season 3 unfortunately dropped off a waterfall.

I was a child of the 70's and I REALLY was in love with Holly. I was jealous of the time Chaka got to spend with her.

Had to watch this first-run as a 10-12yo since my younger cousin liked it and I HATED it, and the acting was part of the hate.. Of course she had to put up with me and Star Trek TAS first. We both went and found something else to do when Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom came on after LotL

I'm still processing the knowledge that someone else on /tv/ is a Land of the Lost fan. I thought I was the only one who was autistically in love with this old TV show.

Seasons 1 and 2 are terrific. At the end of Season 2, the actors tried to demand more money because the studio was making bank selling LotL merch, but the studio instead fired the Marshall actor, and when some of the writers tried to support him, they fired the writers too.

Then they hired a new actor who was the "uncle" of the kids and just slotted him into Marshall's role. The new writers were awful and all the lore that had been building to that point got scrapped in favor of a generic "monster of the week" formula.

Do yourself a favor and watch Season 2, and then stop there.

I was born in 1980 so I only saw it on syndication on my local NBC station in the mid-1980s, but watching the dinosaurs on an old CRT with fuzzy reception made them a lot more terrifying.
>>
>>221389938
Yes, exactly. Theres even one episode where the dad makes it back but exchanges places with an uncle, iirc, so now it's the kids and uncle whatever (I forget) so it's really not about the family, you are just experiencing that world through that focal point.

Same. it was a slap in the face. The original took itself seriously with the very sci-fi premise that this was an area of space time that was exceedingly strange and unstable and filled with creatures from different times and places tha could kill you in any number of ways. Then the movie all but has sleestak slipping on banana peels.

Based correct opinion-havers.

I like to think the life cycle of the Pakuni is that Ta and Sa will grow old and die, and then Cha-Ka will find two baby Pakuni that he names Ta and Sa, who will then grow up to find a baby Pakuni that they name Cha-Ka.

Their species is native to the LotL after all.

>Then the movie all but has sleestak slipping on banana peels.
It was such a bad adaptation, especially knowing Will Farrell was supposedly a fan of the series. It was just a standard "I'M SCREAMING!" Will Farrell flick without any of the weird vibe the original series had.

Never knew there was that much drama behind the scenes and that's the reason why it went to shit. Sad really, was shaping up to be excellent.

Hearing that hiss at any time growing up and even now a bit still sends shivers. Also, Enik was a bro.

Enik was the best character on the show because he was so well-written. Normally he'd be helpful and even benevolent, but then something would get in the way of his plans and he'd suddenly switch to
>I'm sorry, Will Marshall, but you and your family will die.
and then you remember that he's an actual character with goals of his own that isn't just a good guy or a bad guy and he cares more about the Sleestak than about the protagonists
