Depends on the nature of the relationship. If two mismatched guys get put together and you watch the birth of their relationship, you can actually relate as an audience member. Conversely if the relationship is already established at the start of the film, you're just a hanger on watching two friends exchange in-jokes for 90 minutes, and it is boring as fuck.
Case in point, two of OP's films are great and one is dull and forgettable

Only Bad Boys is boring. 48 Hrs, Lethal Weapon, Rush Hour and anything written by Shane Black, are all kino. OP is low test.
