We're supposed to believe Palpy is so strong in the dark side he can mask his power level from the jedi, but when we see him fight against high-level jedi, he's shown to be vulnerable, and not some kind of cosmic Sith God. It's very unlikely Yoda and Mace would never detect a hint of dark-side energy coming from Palpy's direction. But that's what happens, because the plot demands it.
