You can't. Once you're in, there's no coming out.

It’s not that simple. From my experience exploring these maintenance tunnels, they’re sentient enough that you aren’t the one deciding when to get out. It’s maddening at first, but there are patterns of thought that increase the likelihood of an exit, a branch off to a new path, a control panel and so on and so forth.

These outside places initially seem exciting as “secret passageways” when you first stumble on them. But they’ll never function that way for us. I don’t recommend trying to get into one, as that would bring the wrong kind of attention down on you. If you end up in one, treat it as a once in a lifetime experience, and stay calm. Try to think about wherever you were when you came in, think about needing to go back there, maintain a sense of thankfulness for the opportunity to both be where you are and where you are trying to go. Don’t touch any control panels, and put your mental focus on your exhalation, not your inhalation. It will seem like a maze, but don’t worry about that. As far as I can tell, striding forward confidently on instinct alone is more important than the physical geometry of the place. At least for us. Definitely don’t panic.

It is entirely possible you’ll draw the attention of a maintenance worker or security guard. More likely the longer you’re inside. Don’t be afraid. This isn’t a horror movie. In my experience, all they want is to get you back out. Follow their directions, and be very clear and respectful in your response:
“I want to go back to where I was (visualise it)”. That usually works if you can’t work with the tunnel to manifest yourself an exit. The only problem is they will be mad if you tried to get inside.

The entities that can pose a threat will be outside of the tunnel, but inside the larger void the tunnel occupies. Whatever you do, don’t look through any windows. Windows are so rare you probably won’t see one, but if you do, resist the urge to look.

Yeah right. You obey all the rules, if it's a giant animal I'm going to find its head and drive a nail through

I think it’s more like a self-aware eco system. That’s why I think you need to be careful. The guards are intimidating even when they’re being helpful.
I’d hate to see one get mad. I much preferred the maintenance workers back when I was still stupid enough to think I was an explorer. I was just an intruder somewhere I don’t belong.

spray the whole thing down with muriatic acid or hydrogen peroxide, it will behave. If it's potentially demonic we can bring the power of Christ to bear

Problem, backrooms?
