Why were TV audiences in the year 2000 so shocked and scandalized by this show?
>>221405010https://collinwatchesmovies.wordpress.com/2024/04/17/the-bleakest-game-show-of-all-time-who-wants-to-marry-a-multi-millionairehttps://youtu.be/aQaQag0XSKkYou're welcome
>>221405010They pushed it a lot in the media but I am not sure I knew anyone at the time who watched it. It was kind of like OJ Simpson. Big media push over his trial but I knew no one who was interested.
>>221405049dont ever post here again you absolute faggot.
>>221405010I thought Darla Conger’s playboy nudes were really hot for some reason
>>221406335I was 10 and 11 years old at the time but who the fuck wasnt interested in OJ’s trial?
Letterman was gone for awhile? I never knew he left. I remember a lot about obscure 90s pop culture but I have never heard of those two or their wedding, not once.
>>221406935I wasn't. My mother wasn't. My brother wasn't. No one even knew who he was until the trial. My father was upset they would forgo normal news coverage opting for more and more OJ Simpson trial theatrics. No one at school even talked about it.
>>221408044You had to have been there. The media wouldn't shut up about it.
>>221408157>No one even knew who he was until the trialYou were just from a different world. Where I was everyone knew who he was. He was famous from football. So when a famous football star suddenly was accused of killing his wife it was major news. Imagine some major Hollywood actor you like is said to have stabbed his wife to death and then led police on a car chase. You'd suddenly care a lot
>>221408179I was a big Letterman fan and my tv having that channel get bad reception also blocked me from that getting to into it. It was Leno and conan followed by some syndicated show and then Carson Daly. The Daly show was suprising source for indie films and music. They really deep dived to get unique personalities and cool guest.
>>221406335According to the ratings it was one of the biggest TV events of the year. Not as big as the Super Bowl, but right at the next rung down from that.
>>221408157>>221408251Of something isnt in your interest it doesnt exist. Israel, the world cup, the new supergirl movie, they dont exist if you dont care.
>>221408251>He was famous from footballIn the intervening years I realize he was a football player who retired and tried to make it in Hollywood. Thing is I was from New York not Texas. Only person really into sports in my family was my grandfather and he liked the Yankees. The biggest athlete I can remember from back then was Nolan Ryan for the Texas Rangers. I probably couldn't name a single football player at the time. Even when Phil Hartman and Chris Farley died back then I didn't really care. I liked their work but didn't have that kind of connection to them. I remember at least one person in my class wore a black armband when Farley died.>>221408306That's just it. Even the biggest tv event is only watched by a small percentage of Americans.>>221408328I feel like it is a little different now with social media. I don't even use social media but yet I know what's going on over there. People will say there is no longer a monoculture but yet you are more aware of niche interests than ever before.
