Today june 28th Mel Brooks celebrates his 100th year!
He's currently working on spaceballs 2
But what is /tv/'s favorite film of his?
>>
Airplane
>>
it's going to be so depressing. his voice is nearly gone.

i like space balls
>>
>>221409024
I really fucking hope spaceballs 2 is great
>>
>>221408943
I watched Young Frankenstein for the first time the other day and it was awful. Got more laughs out of George of the Jungle 2 which I also watched this week.
>>
In the 80s and 90s I watch the hell out of his movies. My grandpa saw Blazing Saddles for the first time and he literally pissed his pants laughing.

>100 year old Jew
>his entire schtick is that he’s Jewish
>has never once voiced an opinion on Israel or Palestine

How?

Robinhood: Men in Tights. That scene with the blind guy looking at a Playboy mag in braille still gets me.
>>

The whole movie is brilliant, but what's really weird is how it follows the story of The Princess Bride almost to the letter, it's like they had the same script and just different directors who made a slightly different genre of movies out of it. And what's even more weird is how Cary Elwes is in both movies and is the protagonist.

are you sure you watched the uncut one?

>why are we filming my Spaceballs 2 scenes first?
>>
>>221408943
He has flashes of genius but other jokes go on WAY too long, and explain themselves again and again.
>>
I share a birthday with Mel Brooks. Neat.
>>
>Young Frankenstein used to be readily available for streaming on sites like Netflix
>When Disney brought out Fox they shoved it into the vault and made it completely unavailable on every digital platform
Thank God for DVDs
>>
I think Spaceballs is mostly bad, but it does have some good jokes here and there.

>Don't you ever go over my helmet again.
>>
>>221408969
That's Zucker bros not mel brooks
>>
>>221409424
I mess up the two parts constantly too, both great movies.

Zoomer.

Why don't you just pirate you retard?
>>

>>why are we filming my Spaceballs 2 scenes first?
I see that got the OG cast and John Candy's son. I hope they filmed it already, cause everyone's scenes need to go firs.
>>
His way of writing jokes has always been corny. Always just piling on cheap gags that by themselves never work.
>>221410413
Thank god for piracy
>>
>>221411114
That movie is never coming out. Just like Riddick: Furya.
>>
>>221408943
Blazing saddles with robun hood a close second
>>
>>221411170
I never cared for Blazing Saddles, but it's probably because I saw all the classic clips before ever watching the whole movie.
>>
The internet generation cannot understand Mel Brooks and I don't mean to say the jokes have aged, just that the very parody format is now everywhere, we are used to it. If you never had anything like that and suddenly you watch Brooks, it's hilarious.

Also, incredible to reach 100 years old and working. I truly admire that.
>>

>That movie is never coming out. Just like Riddick: Furya.
Spaceballs 2 is set to release in 2027
>>
>>221411976
I'll believe it when I see it.
They haven't even released a trailer.
>>
We can't let him surpass Bob Hope!

The jokes have aged. Jokes always age, because comedy is iterative. You can still enjoy the old films if you place yourself in the mindset of the era, but there's no point in pretending the jokes haven't aged.
>>
>>221410916
Sorry, Naked Gun then
>>
I like all his movies except Life Stinks. That one sucks.
>>
>>221409162
he's smart
>>
>>221409162
Guy came up in the old Catskills Nightclub Circuit the birthplace of standup.
He knows well that people don't want to hear about divisive things and politics and he came from a generation that was known to keep their opinions to themselves.
Broad "Be nice" and "People should be treated fairly" but rarely "We need to support Operation Desert Storm to free Kuwait from the terrors of Saddam Hussein's dictatorship" or "The Israeli government's actions constitute a genocide"
It's something each subsequent generation has gotten worse at, to the point where some kids can't have a conversation that doesn't somehow derail into "We need communism" or "Kill the immigrants as they cross the border"
>>
>>221409162
He's a Jewish Democrat from New York, so he probably privately supports Israel, but it's a controversial issue so he probably doesn't want to get directly involved in it. Jerry Seinfeld is being canceled right now and Mel Brooks is too old to want to deal with that.
>>
>>221408943
Don't really have a favorite but I miss the comedy from that era. Something made it funnier than what we have today and I'm not sure what.
>>
I never really found his movies funny passed age 12, it’s boomer humor
>>
>>221414376
The decline of the Borscht Belt is probably the single greatest disaster to American cultural output
>>
>>221409162
smart entertainers know that you catch a lot more fish with a larger net
>>
>>221414583
I know right? 67 is totally more funny than any Mel Brooks movie!
