Wheel of Time wasn't that bad

It kinda was. The whole premise is that women are more pure than men but they never really show that men who do cast are stronger but insane. They're always just a little bit less strong.

It seemed like the men were powerful, but untrained and able to be overwhelmed by less-powerful Aes Sedai, especially in numbers. That seems fairly realistic.

If you have to say "wasn't that bad" then it sucked ass

So men weren't untrained. You could argue that the main group is untrained but they would be practicing from the moment they left their town. They wouldn't stay incompetent. Which is what the show heavily implies.

I'm talking about non-Rand male channelers. It seemed like a "they're powerful but using their powers makes them go crazy so by the time they get any good, they are insane" situation which stunts their growth. Plus they didn't have a formal training regimen like the Aes Sedai because of the whole insanity thing.

Rand seemed weak/untrained at first but by the end he was pretty explicitly more powerful than any Aes Sedai

It was. I read the books. Especially the first 5-10 several times and this was a massive disappointment

I haven't read the books and thought it was fine. Maybe not as good as the books (can't speak to that), but that doesn't mean it's a bad show on its own.

I liked it, but only because I never read the books
