Do you accept the common theory that they drowned after leaving the island? Or do you think they survived and started a new life? Also, best prison film of all time.
There was some talk one of the prisoners was in south america. Also, spoilers.
Be courteous to others and use spoiler tags, OP. I watched it years ago and thought it was good but not remarkable. I think Shawshank and Sing-Sing are better prison movies. Maybe also Starred Up.
>>221412031They probably drowned.Interesting thought though: imagine if you were Frank Morris and you actually made it and got to South America or something, and you saw the warden going on about how you definitely drowned. Would you be just a little bit tempted to send him a postcard saying haha, no I didn't?If there was no risk, you might well. But what if doing this did carry a certain risk of your getting caught and re-imprisoned? Would that deter you?
>>221412266No reason to do it when he is still the warden, maybe decades later near your twilight years and even then not from your home town but some other method and location that would be untraceable if they went looking. Btk got caught for his hubris as.well he should have.
I think they found evidence suggesting their survival?
>>221412208imo it's one of those few movies that can't really be spoiled. You go into it expecting a successful escape, the thrill of it is seeing how elaborate it was. But even the filmmakers themselves had trouble deciding on the ending because nobody really knows what happened to those guys.
>>221412031How did Clint Eastwood put the poster back in place after crawling through the wall?
>>221412031>don't worry goy they totally drowned>don't worry goy DB Cooper fell to his deathIt's just a glowie cope
>>2214123532014 Oceanographic Study: Scientists from Delft University concluded that if the escapees launched their raft at a specific tide window (11:30 p.m. on June 11), they could have reached Angel Island. Photographs: Forensic experts verified that photos taken in Brazil in 1975 showed two men who were "more than likely" the Anglin brothers, though facial recognition was hindered by sunglasses. Correspondence: The Anglin family received Christmas cards with verified handwriting from the brothers but no postmarks, and a 2013 letter allegedly from John Anglin claimed the others had died and offered a deal for his surrender. Witness Accounts: A childhood friend claimed to recognize the brothers in Rio de Janeiro, and a convict inside Alcatraz claimed to receive a postcard with the code phrase "Gone fishing."
>>221412353My dad is a criminal investigator/psychologist. He says people would be amazed that over 50% of criminals never get caught. He’s still investigating the rape/murder/arson of a girl I grew up with and she was murdered in 2009. They even have video of the guy’s car but they can’t make out the license plates. Guy just broke into her house and raped and beat and strangled and burned the place down 17 years ago and got away with it.
>>221412562That seems less about intelligence and more due to tech limitations. The guy on joe rogan thought cameras could be fooled by wearing a wig. He wasnt aware how high definition they were.
>>221412031I definitely WANT them to have survived because they planned that shit so well. But knowing what I know about the currents around the island, it's a 99% chance they died
>>221412562They found that guy on the train tracks from those two teen girls after so many years, same with the golden gate predator.
>>221412350"One of us needs to stay behind to put the poster back, brother.""O-okay. The fire rises, though, right?""What? Yeah, sure, whatever."
>>221412031They went into the water and said this is fucking cold and then they went back and stayed in the walls of the prison. Their skeletons are still there
>>221412031If they drowned, the bodies would have been found on the shore eventually.
>>221414169Nope. Food chain.

>>221412350Wasn't it Bob Marley?
>>221412562Exactly. The FBI says finding someone who killed their wife/family/boss is easy. Finding someone who killed a random stranger they had no prior connection to in a different city is what's hard. Even with modern CCTV cameras everywhere.
For me its pic and >>221415480
>>221415818I'll put it on my list. And maybe Shot Caller (>>221415480) but Alcatraz is a fucking classic and I'm pissed for not having seen it earlier. Actually i'll say that Animal Factory is really fucking good.
>>221412031Normally I would simply write them off as having died in the water becauseA. The currents in the San Francisco Bay Area are notoriously strong, professional swimmers have been killed trying to cross itB. The water in the Bay Area is very cold by the standards of California, not as cold as the water that killed the victims on the Titanic, but enough to kill you if you're stuck in it in for any extended period of time. However, several factors worked in their favor1. They were in a raft, which would have on its own have both delayed the onset of hypothermia and prevented them from being at immediate risk of drowning if they became too exhausted to continue paddling.2. There were three of them, meaning that if one became too exhausted to paddle, the other two could pick up the slack.3. The two brothers had previous experience swimming in frigid water from childhood.4. Six months after their disappearance, another prisoner escaped Alcatraz and he DID successfully make it ashore at Fort Point (albeit he was incapacitated from hypothermia and recaptured almost immediately), despite being in far colder water, alone, and without a raft. Then there's the fact that none of the bodies were ever recovered. While if they had died, their corpses would have been swept out to sea by the currents, San Francisco is one of the busiest ports in the United States, with ships entering and leaving every hour of the day. It's very likely someone would have reported seeing something yet no one ever did. Moreover, even if the bodies were swept out by the current and consumed by the fishies, non-degradable material such as articles of clothing would have likely been swept back up at a later date. None ever did.tl;dr It's entirely possible that they successfully escaped, the biggest argument against it is that none of the three were ever re-arrested despite an extensive manhunt.
>>221412350My impression was always that he removed the tape from the bottom half of the poster so it would just naturally fall back into place once he left.
>>221412465To build on what this guy said, from Angel Island, it's a relatively short swim to Tiburon (around 1 mile) and even if you got too exhausted to go on, the currents would likely just carry you to Sausalito. From either of those locations you could easily disappear into Marin County or even jump on a morning ferry/bus to San Francisco.

>>221412031the real Frank Morris was kino. he was a non-violent criminal and was only in Alcatraz because he was too smart to be held anywhere elsebut he probably drowned desu, those waters are rough
>>221416682His occupation was an escape artist? Wow! They really should stop teaching that class. Also, his intelligence was actually tested? Superior intellect? How is that determined?
>official manhunt lasted for 17 years>still an open case with the US Marshal service>never found any remains, just pieces of the raft, life jackets and some personal effects>”they drowned!!”They got away and lived out their lives under the radar, feds would rather have them dying be the official story rather than admit they let three small time felon bozos get one over on the government.
