Lost is one of the greatest shows of all time despite all its flaws. You can still re-watch it today and it's an instant classic, it holds up well. It looks beautiful. It's well directed. The acting is good as are the actors and the cast is incredibly memorable.

From had potential, but it was never going to be Lost 2.0 just because some of the producers of Lost were involved. The budget is just not there. The actors are literally whos that aren't very good and the performances aren't memorable. Harold can't carry the show on his own and he's not like a superb actor, just better trained than most of the other cast.
On top of that, many of the characters just aren't that interesting outside of Victor, Boyd, and a few others, but honestly that's what made Lost so good, it was the characters and their stories and how they fleshed them all out. Even the secondary characters in Lost like Juliet are more fleshed out than the main characters in From.

This show just doesn't have the magic spice, I'm not going to drop it, there's not much else to watch and I've invested enough time that I do want to see where it goes in the final season, but man it's just a disappointing show because you realize nothing is ever going to be able to deliver the same kind of experience as Lost was able to do 20 fucking years ago.

Yeah, no, it's still one of the greatest shows of all time. I re-watch it every few years and it still holds up really well and honestly, I've grown to respect it even more with each re-watch because of how amazing the quality was for a network show at the time it came out. It still looks like a modern to this day, and the music, the atmosphere, the setting, it all just feels so unique to this day there's just nothing else like it.

Even the ending. I'm an oldfag so I watched Lost starting at season 2 and was really into it posting on lostpedia and looking at that spoiler site that had people spy with set pics and whatnot every day they were shooting. I just respect the show a lot and honestly the writing and everything it's clear they rushed a lot of shit in season 6 that was unsatisfying, but the ending I still get emotional when I watch it. It's just a great send off to the characters and that's all that really mattered with the show anyways, what the Island was, what it's purpose was, it's better left being far more mysterious than answering all the questions even though they did answer pretty much everything relevant.

The big problem with From in comparison to Lost is how poorly From uses its time. Seasons of Lost were twice as long as From's but they spent a lot of that time on flashbacks and "fluff", episodes that are not of massive importance but either expand on characters or hint at future things. From doesn't have enough episodes for that, but it doesn't use its less time more economically. It is in fact much less efficient with its time than Lost is. Loads of time is spent in From on things that go nowhere. This happens from time to time in Lost as well, but again, Lost has 20 episodes, you can afford to have totally skippable episodes, but overall, way more happens in a season of Lost than in From. Like keep in mind, by season 4 of Lost they were literally off the island.
Part of the problem here is how passive everyone in From is, antagonists and protagonists alike. In Lost, the characters are almost constantly reacting to what The Others are up to. The ghouls in From are pretty comfortable just wandering around town at night without escalating or changing the stakes at all. MIY is the first really active antagonist and nobody even knows what he's doing, so they're not actively reacting to him. In addition, the protagonists themselves are also extremely passive. They barely experiment, they almost never share information amongst each other, what few plans they do make(like capturing a ghoul) are abandoned immediately without achieving anything, and their position has barely changed since the show started.
I'm not even huge on Lost, but From really makes you appreciate it.

Yeah, Victor, Jade, Boyd, Jim was OK before he got killed in season 1 at least, Donna and maybe Kenny pretty much carry this show. Most of the other characters are just irrelevant. They barely develop these characters either, like one character will do like one small thing and then be irrelevant the rest of the season, look at Sara this season, or Julie, or Elgin, it's just these characters feel pointless. How was it that Lost managed to have a cast of like dozens of characters and managed to keep them all involved in the plot and this show can barely manage to do that with a few.

I don't see why this matters, everything is made up. Lost was probably never expected to be the cultural phenomenon that it became, so they had scope creep or whatever and had to figure out what they were going to do with the plot. Considering that I think they managed to do a pretty good job with making 20+ episodes a year for 6 straight years and the writers strike. It's honestly damn impressive that it turned out as good as it did despite all the flaws.

I think carefully planning out a show or at least having an outline is fine, but sometimes a writers room is better when they are making shit up as they go, it can make things more interesting at least to not have a rigid outline of where you have to go.

yeah honestly, From will basically fade from memory rapidly, as do most modern shows desu. Lost was a product of its time, a different era before streaming when there was actually a reason to turn on the tv at a certain time to watch a certain show because someone told you it was good and you didn't want to miss out. Now, there's such a dilution of quality, there's so many more tv shows that everyone can just find a particular show for their tastes and not even bother checking out anything else. Everyone is just doing their own thing in their own bubble watching whatever few shows they watch, there's hardly any big cultural phenomenon shows anymore, and even the few that you could consider that like HotD right now aren't very good or memorable.

I mean maybe this is just the nostalgia talking for me, but it's just how I feel. Nothing I watch today really grabs me anymore or makes me excited / looking forward to what comes next. This season as a whole did very very little to advance or resolve the plot. Genuinely, what major plot lines did this finale resolve? What answers do we have that we didn’t before?

We are going into the final season and we still know nothing about Martin, what use the bones are, who the MiY is, why and how Fatima turned into a monster (not to mention the golem thing seemingly will never get answered), what the importance of the Lake of Tears is, what those stuffed animal monsters were or why the staff worked against them, who Jade and Tabitha really are and why they keep coming back, what Boyd’s illness is, what the MiY is doing to Henry, what the MiY was doing to Sarah, what the deal is with story walking, what the origin of the monsters are, the truth about the talismans, etc. I could keep going but there are a ton of mysteries left and none were answered in one season finale. This close to the end of the entire show.

I understand not being able to reveal everything and am fine being patient for some answers. But to be 80% through the entire show with almost no answers and really honestly more questions now than ever before, gone through the second to last season with no major answers revealed, some plot points seemingly dropped for multiple seasons is just not great writing or pacing.

And by the way, I think part of it is that we choose to disconnect from other people in real life in general because of the internet, and it doesn't have to be that way. i'm still very mixed on this show. After rewatching s1-3 before starting season 4 this show really is so much better when you can just binge it. All my previous complaints about pacing and filler all got ignored when multiple episodes take place over one day in the show.
I think when season 5 finishes and someone goes and binges the entire series it will be a lot more enjoyable.

I feel that donna should have died this season. with the complete abandonment of the town-vs-colony house storyline she kind of just became a sidekick to boyd in many ways instead of an antagonist to him, and now she seems like she’s just kind of lingering.
I hope fatima, as a monster, kills ellis next season. never cared for either of them much, although I love boyd so maybe I do want him and his son to survive together. would be pretty bittersweet if boyd makes it out without him. but if boyd is going to end up sacrificing himself for the others, then I do hope ellis dies and I hope we see boyd somehow get a chance to fuck up some monsters on his way out.
I like jade but don’t like how they cucked jim and don’t like tabitha at all but I now expect them and ethan and julie to survive, possibly with victor too, and become a weird little happy family. if anyone survives at all, that is.

I hope they will do something different in Season 5. I want Sophia to do something unexpected. Something changes her mind, she is not going to kill the town, instead she rules over the town as a Queen. Kinda like the Walking Dead, when Negan became the boss of Rick.

I think that would be fun. The people would have actually have a reason why they are not able to do much. Before that they had the ability to explore the woods, fortify their town with a palisade, etc. But now they are actually busy doing whatever she wishes. Maybe build her a throne or something. I think that would be really cool. Go in a completely different direction than what was expected.
