I don't get the hate of Eggers. Eggers is here to stay. Folk horror is not a fad. And Parsons doesn't make Eggers obsolete, one is folk horror, the other is found footage horror.
>>
>>221443719
Eggers is never going away. All we can do is hope that AI takes over and floods the market, ruining the chokehold of reddit-style cinema.

>I don't get the hate of Eggers
It's performative hate just like anything else on this godforsaken board. Eggers is popular, so /tv/ hates him.
>>

Clozzy vs Gorbo? The Ballad of Clozzy and Gorbo? Mog?

>100 eggers using AI will destroy eggers.

No it will just create a hellscape of 'folk horror' and 'found footage horror'
>>
>>221443719
Eggers's horror calls out for atavistic terrors. Parsons, though I admit I haven't watched his film, is an entire different deal.
>>221443745
Lol. AI is just a tool. It can make or unmake any style. It all depends on who pushes the buttons, lil bro.

The Lighthouse is for fellas, his Nosferatu was for chicks and surprise surprise, both sucked. Drives home an old saying "if something is for everyone, then it's for no one"
>>
>>221443802
>I just think he's a hack,
This is what I don't get. He's clearly got an eye for detail (go and watch the commentary fro The VVitch), and he's authentic; I don't see how he could be perceived as a hack?
>>
>>221443893

You don't say.

For movies, if something is for everyone then it is for women. This is because things for men, females are fine with consuming. But high testosterone actual real men don’t enjoy things for women.
>>
The Northman is only c-class Eggers. It doesn't properly tap into the classic folk horror of silent cinema such as Haxan and Vampyr.
>>
>>221444102
What do high t dudes enjoy?
>>
Eggersian arthouse bone chilling cinema of folk horror. Japanese ghost stories. Eastern european fairy tales particularly from Czechoslovakia new wave. 1940s Berkley musicals and Soviet mudpunk cinema. Robert Eggers invented slow cinema, the oner, and folk horror. This is why everything is an awful A24 folk horror aesthetic, pro-wrestling he-man style cinema, like Marvel capeshit and Robert Eggers entire career, the liminal spaces memes, and of course, the Zoomers insistence on trannyism and wokeism.
>>
>>221444138
Filipino lady boys
>>
>>221444126
>>221444151
Sure that's what Orlok represents and I agree Eggers is happy to retrace those archetype from folk stories without taking an explicitly Christian position. I'm just saying he doesn't normatively equivocate the clearly sympathetic Ellens passions with the ontological evil Orlok's consumptive excess. The chauvanism and medicalisation of Ellen plot is evidence of this. There's room for nuance in that distinction and narrative and its where lies the heart of the gothic horror drama
>>
>>221444156
What separates them from the fabled Thai ladyboys?
>>
>>221444151
>Soviet mudpunk cinema
Is this an actual movement or are you just referencing Hard to be a God?
>>
>>221444151
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Eggers is the same way -- while I wouldn't say he's made the same film 4 times (about to make the 5th), he operates broadly in the same space, to the point that it would be interesting to see him challenge himself with something completely different. However the kind of films he makes is unprecedented in modern filmmaking and no one else is making them like he does, so I'm fine with him limiting himself this way.

Most Jews go through a phrase where you to try do what is best for the Goyim. You try to explain why they shouldn't buy trinkets on credit but instead save their money. You try to tell them about delayed gratification, about consuming the right type of culture, about nutrition. And they act personally insulted. Eventually you notice that if you do the opposite, they will actually PAY you money for it and treat you like a friend.

I'm a Jewish supremacist because I tried treating Goyim as equal and it was like trying to treat children as equal. Just 5 minutes ago you Goys were ranting that America is "Israel first" now they 'break the Jews of Israeli firsters". And 5 minutes from now you will be onto something you. This is how children act. This is how Goys act. They get extremely emotional emotional about something and the next day they can't even remember it.

he's 2 for 4 now, so he can still turn this around. Northman was very mediocre. Didnt even bother with Nosferatu, looked very generic and couldnt possibly do anything better than Werners. Why even remake it. Shadow of the Vampire at least had an interesting Meta take on the story, i can only sit through Dracula so often till i get bored of such a mediocre story and when the visuals arent anything special, there is nothing going for it. and Lily Depp has a manface

my main problem with Eggers is the same problem that I have with modern-day Ridley Scott.
The man is obsessed with atmosphere but has ZERO narrative instincts, so several scenes repeat the same points and beats again and again and he doesnt know when to get into and exit a scene. Watching his movies is a very frustrating experience (at least modern-day Ridley has a high camp factor like Denzel Washington as a black Caesar threatening the senate while he plays with a decapitated head).

It's from a Marie Losier short film I could never end up locating. I'm not sure it ever found itself online after the festival circuit. The first review on Letterboxd mentions him tho:
>Once again we see what is the idea of Bertrand Mandico's genius... Everything makes sense. Of the rest, this actress was the director's film. See it and it's great! Simple plot that is very evocative. Bravo Marie Losier!

Which, to be honest, was fine with me, because I hadn’t liked her from the start. She was my mother: angry, bitter, middle-aged, frustrated. Mad at all the kids having their big shots. Being the Big Shots. Verna got a little booze in her and regaled me with stories of Marcia’s and George’s ineptitude and how she had saved American Graffiti. So I knocked off Verna, who was never really on.

>>Taxi Driver is a cokey movie. Big pressure, short schedule, and short money, New York in the summer. Night shooting. I have only visited the set once and they are all doing blow. I don’t see it. I just know it. Worse yet, the film has been cut according to Schrader’s script and sucks. We have had a rough-cut screening that is a disaster. The movie just never gets to the audience, plus it often doesn’t seem to make much sense. Brian De Palma laughs uncontrollably during De Niro’s and Cybill’s last exchange in the cab: Betsy: How are ya? Travis: Well, I don’t get headaches anymore. The rest of the audience follows suit and our powerful ending is drowned out in hilarity. And these are our friends! I had to agree with Brian. It was pretty funny. Sure, go out, kill a few people — better than Tylenol and codeine.

>I was convinced that François Truffaut's well-known-deaf-in-the-left-ear legend (with a hearing aid as a prop, if you please) was a ploy, like not speaking English, to keep the world at bay and for his own private amusement. ‘Steven, I’m telling you that left-ear shit is as authentic as the gimp.’ A couple of sentences per day were devoted to this subject. ‘He’s deaf.’ Steven laughed. ‘He makes me repeat everything several times, even with Sally translating.’ It didn’t occur to Steven that he was being pimped. People as manipulative as Steven never think that they could be just players in other people’s mind games.
>>
>‘I’ll make this fun. We’ll sit at dinner, me to Frangois’s left, then Sally to his right, and you to Sally’s right. I know you won’t like the seating arrangement, but it makes sense. It fulfills the boy-girl, boy-girl concept as well as the translating requirement. At some point during dinner I’ll whisper his name and we’ll see if he turns toward me. If he does he ain’t deaf and I win. If he doesn’t he is deaf and you win.’
>‘Why can’t I sit to his left and whisper his name?’ ‘Two reasons. One — it makes sense for Sally to sit between you two and that has to be on his right assuming the hearing aid has a purpose at all, and Two —I think any man, especially a Frenchman, would respond to a woman’s whisper more than a man’s.’ ‘I love it when you talk like that.’
>Halfway through dinner I whispered ‘Francois’ and he turned minutely in my direction. Of course, Steven argued that it was an inconclusive gesture, and he welched on the bet. I know I won because it earned me Frangois’s eternal enmity.
>When the dinner was over and we had all said our good- nights, we got back into Steven’s car. We sat in silence for a moment while the car warmed up. We turned to each other. For no particular reason, I put my arms around his neck and stuck my tongue in his mouth. We had a good long kiss. He pulled away. His glasses were tilted at a ridiculous angle; he looked frightened. ‘Jul-ee-a, that was a real kiss . . .” Treasure it, pal, it’s the one and only. More silence during the drive to Burbank and I patted his hand in a comforting gesture before I got out of his car and into mine. I drove home very fast and brushed my teeth twice before I went to bed. The things a girl will do just to make a great movie .. .

Hilarious lady, serious coke problem. Her book has lots of great little stories like she spends the night in Francis Ford Coppola's hotel room and the next morning she goes to Spielberg's; and because she's wearing very uncomfortable boots, Spielberg believes Coppola has been assfucking her the whole night.

>Steven takes a tentative puff on my joint, coughs, and passes it back to me. We haven’t spoken in four years, but we have run into each other on the MGM Poltergeist. lot, where he is directing He is supposed to be producing it, but Tobe Hooper, the director, it is whispered, has lost his cookies and Steven has had to step in. I wonder if Steven has been the first to whisper the Hooper rumors. It would fit his m.o. We are acting as if nothing bad ever happened between us. Steven has asked for the joint, which surprises me, he is such a straightnik. Maybe it is his way of getting along with me on my terms.

Walt Disney will outlive all of them regardless. Disney is not only just movie history, he is world history. Pinnochio, Snow White, Fantasia, and Bambi will still be known about a century from now. Walt Disney does not make any 'important canon' list. Not AFI, not BFI, not S/S. The only canon he makes is animation. Disney is unfashionable, while he is simply the best there ever was.

Disney has been buried because he was a vicious antisemite. Like Dahl, some people are too big to bury, so they coopt and subvert them.

>>
>>221471155
He hasn't been remotely buried. Nor has he been subverted. These films transcend cinema entire. It is time they got the respect they deserve.
>>
>>221471406
>Nor has he been subverted
What are all those live action remakes, then? I'm not an adult Disney fan nor a /pol/schizo, but few figures in cinematic history have had their legacies so completely demolished.

>Paul Vecchiali, eighteen years after the death of his father Charles, found his diary, which recounts the progression of his illness from 1952 until his death in 1959.
>He then filmed this journal kept in a notebook. The entries it contains are succinct, precise. They are of a quasi-military rigor. The deceased was a captain, for that matter. And emotion arises from this contrast between the dryness of the filmed text, accentuated by the neutral tone of the narrator, and all that is dramatic in it. We really have the impression of an impregnable ill (we are warned from the start of the fatal outcome) which progresses relentlessly despite brief lulls. It all begins with asthma attacks, which seem to have entailed much more serious afflictions, since Captain Vecchiali was going to die of cancer. Unless there was a chance coincidence.
