It's a documentary about sleep paralysis, but it goes more supernatural later. Shadow people, voices, demons and shit. Which is funny in its own way. What they describe is "real", just not real.

If you've ever dealt with sleep paralysis then you know how scary it can be. If you haven't then this is the perfect movie to watch in bed right before falling asleep.
>>
>>221469816
Yeah it's basically as scary as it gets. A simulation of what if demons, ghosts, aliens etc were real and in your room right now.
>>
>>221469845
Why does everyone sense ghosts, demons or aliens during sleep paralysis?
>>
>>221469860
I also get "there's a spider in your bed" but it always causes fight/flight response instead of paralysis. Then after 20 seconds of checking the covers I'm like wtf is even going on.
The most rare was I imagined a death robot with a laser sight was going to kill me if I didn't move. I think it was caused by a light in my room. Again I exploded out of bed and launched myself through the door. And yes I've terrified women doing this.
>>
>>221469860
Not him and I haven't seen the documentary in like 10 years but I remember them bringing that up.

>Why does basically everyone we interview more or less describe the same shadow people coming for them.....?
I don't know either. All the times they've visited me over the years I never saw it as anything truly supernatural. They are fucked up and scary though.
>>

I watched "The Mummy's Hand" (1940) and it's another campy horror flick. At least it's only 66 minutes long. Universal put a star from "singing cowboy" movies into it as a lead role, and he gets to keep his six-shooter to happily blast away the natives in Egypt. He also gets a comic relief sidekick from Brooklyn who can't stop comparing everything in Egypt to Brooklyn.

Anyway, the hero's business is to schmooze rich people to get money for an expedition, to then find gold, diamonds and riches and rob them for himself and his investors. And supposedly in 1940 the Egyptian authorities never objected and were totally cool with this, even lending them their professors to translate hieroglyphs to get on the right track for the plunder expedition. The graverobbing "hero" is supposed to have been one of the inspirations for Indiana Jones 40 years later. And apparently this relatively cheap movie was so successful that it led to Universal producing a string of further mummy movies.
>>
>>221470485
Yeah they shipped physical discs a while ago. I would have ordered it but I don't even have a blu-ray player anymore.
>>
>>221470537
From memory I think there's some fun factor improvement in this one compared to The Mummy. They have more egyptian sets and settings, which is what the punters want at heart. Big pyramid etc.
>>
>>221470575
No big pyramid, but a cave that's supposed to be in the desert. For the introduction sequence they re-used footage from the original Mummy movie. What is great though is the mummy's make-up. Plus they made the effort of painting the mummy's eyes and mouth black on every frame of the film to make it look more terrifying.

As I wrote above it did boost the popularity of mummy movies as they made 4 more of these after 1940. They try to have some fun with the sidekick character in this movie, and I guess the cowboy and the beautiful daughter of the expedition financer were also popular with the theater audience at the time.
>>
>>221470650
Oh makes sense, I just remember the set.

Just finished. The bane of all 80s slashers fans is the "slasher" that's really just a cop movie. There's tons of them, there's a killer that the plot revolves around, but the movie is low on to absent of kills and filled with witness interviews and worse, charming little glimpses into the cops' lives. This is one of the worst offenders I've seen, a 70s flick not released until the 80s and with aggressively deceptive horror imagery on it. Exempting a couple of "shits" in the dialogue, this is TV pilot material, with a bald cop and his Chinese partner in SF looking for a murderer who removes the hearts from his victims. It's all tied to black market organ transplants, no surprise there, and the killer is Fred Ward when he was still a no name. A boring Rockford Files episode at best, absolutely not horror.
>>
>>221470537
>and he gets to keep his six-shooter to happily blast away the natives in Egypt
He shoots a single murderous cultist.

>>221470537
>Anyway, the hero's business is to schmooze rich people to get money for an expedition, to then find gold, diamonds and riches and rob them for himself and his investors
Did you even watch the fucking movie? He explicitly is NOT that but is falsely accused of such by the villain.
You see the riches/artifacts being sent to a Museum at the end.
>>
>>221471714
>The bane of all 80s slashers fans is the "slasher" that's really just a cop movie
Strongly disagree, I like when the cops have a tangible role like in Halloween 4 or Friday Part 6.
>>
>>221471714
>"slasher" that's really just a cop movie

>>
>>221471720
>You see the riches/artifacts being sent to a Museum at the end.
Yes - in the United States. Also he promised Sullivan part of the money he'd get from selling the finds of the expedition. That's why Sullivan signed the contract.
>>
>>221471736
I'm not talking about a slasher with cops in it, I'm talking about a police procedural marketed as a slasher movies. They pulled this a lot in the 80s.
>>
Just finished. Just beautifully retarded. What the fuck. Shot in at most 2 days entirely in one house and less than 60 minutes long. A group of college "kids" are hanging out drinking beers and talking about their phobias (like one's girlfriend getting so horny that her pussy sets the house on fire and they die.) One says he wants to show them his phobia and they all need to leave for an hour and when they come back he'll have a "skit" ready for them. When they return, someone in an old woman halloween mask kills them one by one in the most cost effective ways possible. This bitch takes teleporting to new, incredible levels just short of parody. It's actually kinda well shot for something that mostly takes place in a bathroom and a basement. I would've HATED this in 1999, but today it charmed the pants off me. The ending explanation is incredible. the whole thing was all an initiation prank into their friend group for one of the girls, who has a heart attack when she things all off her friends have been killed. But then, at her funeral that all her "dead" friends are attending, she's watching them from her car! Makes as much sense as anything else in this beautiful pile of fucking ass.

I finally watched it and holy shit it's so bad. Normalfags will call anything a masterpiece if enough people on TikTok tell them it is. If the film didn't have such a small budget I'd be calling it astroturfed but they really do just have garbage taste. Even the supposed incel protag I kept hearing about is a fakecel who also does basically nothing the entire movie. Plus it tries so hard to be Hereditary with the "woah dude she's standing in the corner isn't that creepy" thing except they do it 4 times. Seriously fuck this snorefest.

Does anyone else remember being a kid and being scared of all the horror movie covers at block buster? As a kid from like 5 to 10 i assumed every horror movie was non stop cannibal holocaust level stuff. Like ever other scene is just a carnarium of torture and body parts.

I assumed shit like jack frost was just 2 hrs of a demon skeleton snow man ripping peoples faces off and tearing the arms off babies and shit.

It wasnt until i was 11 or 12 did i realize how tame (most) horror movies were.

I agree though I thought it did a good job of taking j-horror elements and adapting them.
An interesting interview on how they used lighting. A good example of how digital effects and fixing lighting in post aren't entirely bogus.

I'm unironically hype for the Sirenhead movie
>>
>>221486945
I know nothing about it except he has a siren for his head and that's enough.
Sirens are kino, one of my favourite things about Silent Hill is the terror when they go off.

>>221486980
there's been a couple indie games using Sirenhead. and yeah, exactly, it's just a cool creature and you could basically do anything with it for a movie so I'm curious what they'll come up with. i wonder if the original creator is involved. he was an artist on Instagram I used to follow back when I used it

One thing about it is that it reminds me of YellowBrickRoad, i.e. it can be done in daylight. Not a lot of horror concepts are just as scary at day as at night.

Feels good getting paid $200 to watch one movie.

Primate was okay. it wasn't really scary or even that tense. you're kinda just watching it like "that's a cool monkey suit, wow"
>>
>>221487574
you should give that to your mom for rent
>>
>>221487597
Yeah the monke was the best part, the teen characters were decent to suck.
It wasn't a huge breakout hit but I hope they make more simple high concept horrors like this.
