>starts the new DC cinematic universe without Batman

It never had a chance
>>
He couldn't use Batman. Reeves still has the rights for Part II of his batman movie that also didn't make 1 billion dollars that spun off into a TV show that no one watched or cared about.
>>

>>starts the new DC cinematic universe that's just another guardians rehash but more gay
it didn't deserve a chance
>>
>>221481028
I dont care about James Gunn but its an interesting thought experiment.
How do you build a DC movie universe without Batman?
Obviously you have to start with Superman which Gunn did.

But then where? Flash, Aquaman, and Wonder Woman had just flopped, do you reboot them that soon? No one has successfully made a Green Lantern or Supergirl movie yet, do you try one of those?

Honestly asking, what should Gunn have done?
>>
>>221481255
Superman
Superman II

Marvel did it with Iron Man there were 2 Iron Man movies first
But another thing Marvel did was not care if the movies weren't very good individually or not do very well. When the Hulk movie underperformed they didnt shitcan the universe they just kept going. Sometimes you gotta do that. Demanding every movie make a billion dollars is impossible. There will be weak links and even the MCU had several before it found its stride. They just kept going in spite of it.
>>
>>221481364
Technically there was the hulk movie between the Iron man movies.

Its a neat parallel with the supergirl movie being between two superman movies
>>
>>221481558
Yeah I misremembered my bad. Point is they'd be dumb to attempt a third reboot so quickly. Just pretend it didnt happen. That's what the real champs do.
>>
>>221481043
Now type that without crying
>>
Being a DC fan is a humiliation ritual. Marvel’s about to make cinematic history by putting out the first ever live-action crossover between the Avengers, X-Men, and F4. Meanwhile, James Gunn is jacking off to Frank Grillo and doomscrolling Twitter.

Unironically it was WB that screwed themselves over on that. None of you will believe me but during those years from Batman v Superman to Justice League (theatrical) the execs were essentially saying "no" to everything Snyder wanted and "yes" to basically everyone else.

>Snyder and Affleck want a solo Batman movie?
No. Let's greenlight Live By Midnight and kill it before it has a chance so we can pull Affleck off directing Batman and put Matt Reeves on it.
>Reeves wants *total control* over what he wants to be an *entirely separate version* of Batman?
Yessir! Right away sir, this will surely show Snyder we hate him, kill his universe, and let us move on! Then we can hire James Gunn (who they wanted to do Superman for basically a decade. Look it up)

Unfortunately they couldn't look much further in the future and upon approaching Reeves to have his Batman in Gunn's universe, Reeves told them to go fuck themselves. This is actually seriously what happened. It's why The Batman 2 stalled for so long
>>
>>221481785
Yeah stalling batman for so long was bad, part 2 is set for 2027 iirc and that's a long time. Reeves could've been gearing up for part 3 right now if he wanted instead of languishing in limbo for so long. Or at least resolved and done with. Same thing with greenlighting Joker 2 at all with that script.
>>
>>221481028
>Movies are all stand alone stories
>Movie does bad
>Doesn't effect the other movies
>Just moves on and makes something else, if it does well cool, if it bombs oh well
DC not worrying about being inercorrected the same way as Marvel means it'll be just fine.
>>
>>221481819
Joker 2 is kino except for “that scene”
>>
>>221481826
Marvel spent a long time making low returns. It wasnt until Avengers which was 4 years in they started consistently hitting it out of the park. The budget to profit on phase 1 wasnt always that great. Some of the BO returns were really low. Hulk and Captain America 1 didnt do very well. At some point you really just have to say fuck it. Not every movie from day 1 is going to work.
>>
>>221481864
Yeah DC isn't doing a big long storyline that pops up in little Easter eggs or after credits, they're just random stories all told in the same universe like how comics actually are and with that freedom, I feel like DC isn't really going to be effected all that much like they can just recast and all that it's not ultra connected like MCU or even DCEU.
>>
After actually watching Superman I think the worst fucking idea is trying to shove in a billion different heroes in to these things to spring board off a bunch of other possible films

>what should Gunn have done?
He should have done Batman as his first movie, ofc no Peacemaker, Creature Commandos, Clayface and no a 2nd Superman or a Supergirl movie before the Justice League, he could have gone with something like this:

Batman
Lanterns tv show
Superman
Robin (Dick Grayson) tv show
Swamp Thing
Flash tv show
Wonder Woman
Aquuaman tv show
The Justice League
>>
>>221482186
He can't use batman until Reeves is done with Part II and WB delayed the movie several times. I doubt Gunn was happy about it.
>>
>>221481028
It makes me laugh how much he will be seething that The Batman 2 got greenlit and is moving forward and filming.

>>
>>221481028
>Kindness is heckin punk.
Can we please stop making superhero movies gay?
>>
>>221482223
He could have gone with a Nightwing tv show, he had also Red Hood, Catwoman, Batgirl, Titans, the Arkham Asylum Inmates if he wants to introduce villains ....
>>
>>221481255
> Honestly asking, what should Gunn have done?
Gunn should had a event crossover film lined up. Literally anything to get people to be interested. When Marvel was failing they put out Deadpool and Wolverine to get people hyped and it worked.Gunn is trying to slowly build his DC universe but can't because the Superhero bubble popped.
>>
>>221481255
>Honestly asking, what should Gunn have done?
Green Lantern TV show, but set in space, and it's an episode thing, and it's got green and yellow and red lanterns and blue ones and whatever, and it's like Star Trek mixed with cop show, it's kinda campy, rotating protagonists, and cynically test which human Green Lantern (Hal, John, Kyle, or Guy) gets the best response for an eventual movie
But also there would be episodes where the protag is Sinestro or whatever
>>
>>221482056
That looks Kino though.
>>
I like Superman more if the costumes look like the classic designs, there was no irony poisoning and the Gunnishs were tone down more. I thought it was fine, but Superman hasn't had a great film since 78. I'm tired of irony poisoning of MCU but also the edgy and gritty of Synder, I just want bright colorful superheroes played completely straight like Raimi and Superman 78 and if it is dark and mature it isn't just edgy shit but it's actually mature like 80's Mike Grell Green Arrow comics or The Question.
>>
>>221481776
Also DC has no video games, meanwhile Marvel has Tokon Fighters and Marvel Rivals, this shit fucking sucks
>>
>>221481785
>Unfortunately they couldn't look much further in the future and upon approaching Reeves to have his Batman in Gunn's universe, Reeves told them to go fuck themselves. This is actually seriously what happened. It's why The Batman 2 stalled for so long

Imagine being retarded as WB and giving full control of their biggest superhero without any loopholes.

What a retarded company.
>>
>>221482904
They had the Lego Batman game but it was awful. They literally had bats poop on Batman.
>>
>>221481255
>How do you build a DC movie universe without Batman?
You literally don’t. Batman is the one holding the DC universe up. No one cares about DC’s other characters.
>>
>>221481785
The problem wasn't shitcanning Snyder it was ruining the franchise until a goldmine of stories and characters is unprofitable. "ruining the franchise" includes hiring Snyder in the first place but it also includes everything after he was fired. Simply adapting the Timmverse to live action was the easiest slam dunk

>Honestly asking, what should Gunn have done?
Still have to start with Superman and a direct sequel but not the way he did it. It should have been similar in tone to Dean Cain and Tom Welling's Superman. Have Clark be the the real person and Superman be "what he can do". Have Clark, Lois or ideally both working together reporting on a story that happens to connect to a Gotham vigilante. Then you continue as below:
>Batman
>Superman 3
>World's Finest
>Batman 2
>Wonder Woman
>The Flash
>Batman 3
>Justice League
>Aquaman
>Superman 4
>The Flash 2
>Wonder Woman 2
And all the films above should not have cameos from other heroes unless it is designed to include them like World's Finest or Justice League.

Lol yeah nightwing by himself, that'll bring in the box office. Its the same problem. He did sort of get cucked.

WB has the rights, retard. And either way I know why they did it, the point was it was a really bad idea. Batman is the core of dc since the '80s. Not Superman

Gunn's Superman can be saved by turning it into a TV series and give it a soft reboot. New suit and backstory for Clark, Lois and Lex. Call it "The Adventures of Superman".

>>221482904
DC had the Injustice fighting games and the Arkham series, but that only reinforces that doesn't have characters besides Batman that make money

FPBP
>>221481716

>>
>>221483439
batman would always have the most adjacent characters in those games, too
like 1/4th of the roster would be batman villains and then there'd be robin or batgirl too, compared to the other "main" ones who'd just get their main nemesis or whatever
>>
>>221481255
Superheroes should stick to their own series and films.
Crossovers are for Justice league and Avengers where there's a blockbuster threat and the interaction of the heroes is a novelty.
Making heroes depend on other heroes for screen time or to justify a budget is pathetic

It was either to introduce the Batfamily before Batman or to use Green Arrow as Batman knockoff.

Like me. Gunn didn't make Superman, Snyder tried but needed adjustment and Singer just copied Reeve. Just make it a TV show and have Superman appear in event films only. Clark works at a newspaper. The idea is to follow his adventures weekly, to grow with him. Not in a quick 2 hours where you learn almost nothing at all.

We just saw how that went when they tried to reboot Arkham a few years but without batman and no one played it. Then the Batgirl movie that was so shit they just never released it, failed TV shows (Birds of Prey, Bat Girl).

Batman and Joker are non negotiable for long term success.

>>221485626
WB always picks that one comic writer that DC editorial tells them is their mega star to turn them into a high profiler consult and based all their movie projects on their comic book storylines. It never works out.

Before it was Geoff Johns, who tried to micromanage everything. Now? It is Tom King. Everything Gunn is doing is either based on King, has notes from King, or is straight up written by King.
>>
>muh he can’t use Batman because reeves
He doesn’t like Batman. He gauges characters by how much he can turn them into starlord. That’s why his superman was so ooc.
>>
>>221481028
Marvel started a successful universe without Spider-Man or Wolverine
>>
>>221481255
Aquaman 2 did well compared to most of the other cape movies released in the few years before and after it
Honestly I think they should have squeezed out one last low budget Aquaman DCEU movie, even after the new universe started
>>
>>221485756
And it can't be replicated. Everyone else has tried, and it's never worked. What does that tell you?
>>
>>221485778
>Aquaman 2 did well compared to most of the other cape movies released in the few years before and after it
It made 440M on a 205M budget. It flopped. Didn't even break even.
>>
>>221481255
You don't. Normies only care about Batman.
>>
>>221485756
Because RDJ oozes charisma and embodied the character, give that role to a lesser actor and it flops. Then they found success in making Captain America actually interesting with Chris Evans and finding a blonde beast to play Thor with Chris Hemsworth. It was 50/50 whether or not the universe failed before that.
>>
>>221485858
Chris Evans flopped as Captain America the first time and so did Norton as Hulk. Feige just persisted. MCU didnt actually take off until the Avengers. Feige brute forced Iron Man, Cap, and Thor into mainstays. DC should do the same and just keep going with the universe they've already decided to make.
>>
>>221485894
Can't be replicated now people have superhero fatigue
>>
>>221485894
>DC should do the same and just keep going with the universe they've already decided to make.
The lineup they have ain't it, bro. And they don't have an Avenger type event movie for its Phase 1. It's just random shit that leads nowhere.

I’m sure it’s sinking in now that a highly inflated RT score doesn’t equate to automatic success. There’s a reason Feige never gave this one note hack an avengers movie. How do you become CEO of DC then proceed to do fuck all.
>>
>>221481255
>A DC universe without Batman
They already did that with the CW Arrowverse.
The answer all along was to take a random street-level hero and turn him into a Batman knockoff.
Another thing they could’ve done is make a Green Lantern trilogy that’s modeled after OG Star Wars. With Kyle Rayner becoming the last GL and going up against Hal Jordan/Parallax.
>>
>>221486088
>The answer all along was to take a random street-level hero and turn him into a Batman knockoff
Smallville did that too. Also with Green Arrow.

Man, Snyderbros really, REALLY can't get over that cheerleader laughing at them in 10th grade. Your hatred of yourself shouldn't carry over to a hatred of everything else in life. Go masturbate to Man of Steel and shut the fuck up.

>what should Gunn have done?

All right, here's the correct release order for PHASE ONE of "The Golden Age DC Universe" minus Batman:

1. Doctor Occult & Rose Psychic - This occult detective's body is fused with his girl sidekick's, giving him the ability to assume a female form. Always start your superhero universe with a trans-coded character.

2. Slam Bradley - A violent sexy private eye ("Take every opportunity to show him in a torn shirt with swelling biceps and powerful torso") with Sydney Sweeney as his hot blonde sidekick, Shorty.

3. Superman - Superhuman alien vigilante takes on corruption and greedy businessmen in a big metropolitan city. It's a Mamdani-coded character, and Lois is really AOC. The socialist kids will love it.

4. Zatara - Italian magician teaches his hot daughter the ways of magic.

5. Crimson Avenger & Wing - Okay, here's your in-house Batman & Robin substitute. Rich white guy and his woke Chinese sidekick become masked vigilantes.

6. Sandman (Wesley Dodds) - All he needs is a green business suit, a fedora, a World War I gas mask, and a "gas gun." Directed by a zoomer.

7. The Flash (Jay Garrick) - Speedster. In contrast to previous flop "The Flash" (2023), this guy wears no mask, just a cool silver hat with wings, and is extremely bland and heterosexual.

8. Hawkman - Flying reincarnated Egyptian archeologist with wings and a big herkin' armory of vintage weapons with which he slaughters bad guys.

9. Johnny Thunder - Non-costumed NPC who inadvertently summons wish-granting Thunderbolt with the magic words "onions boy." Jim Carrey as the voice of the animated Thunderbolt.
