I’m having a discussion with a Synder fan. What are some valid criticisms?

He apes the style Nolan's Batman trilogy without understanding why it worked was due to developed characters and their dynamics ex:Alfred and Bruce's surrogate-father-son dynamic (and I am saying this as someone who thinks Nolan is an overrated pretentious hack). The crappy Christ symbolism, the Batman get graped in prison quote. I do agree the Gunn/Whedon Gen-X/millenial irony shtick is tiring though. But Whedon (and Gunn apparently in his Guardians movies) at his best does a much better job balancing comedy and drama than his imitators (ex: when Buffy's mom dies, Whedon doesn't ruin it with a bunch of shitty jokes). Snyder's movies are just a miserable pessimistic slog that doesn't fit a character like Superman (not to mention making Batman a murderer breaks his universe's logic). It's possible to create a thoughtful dark Superman movie, and I give Snyder credit for being more creative than 2025 Superman. But Hitchcock's Vertigo and Psycho are dark but enthralling classics, whereas the legacy of MoS and BvS are the memes mocking the writing.

>>221482931I was shocked by his depiction of Superman when seeing it years after all the hype/controversy. It's like a muscle (gay) being worshiped in a mausoleum for pharaohs or something (Cavil gives a very dead, "preserved" performance.) It's not the canon Superman, it's his own fetish.
