With Sony announcing Playstation will be going all digital by 2028, /v/ is in an uproar.

I was wondering what /tv/'s opinion is about owning physical copies and collecting vs just streaming or torrenting or whatever

Blu-Ray cases are ugly and take up too much space. I'd rather torrent hundreds of movies onto one drive than fill up a wall with that ugly plastic junk. A digital file on disc vs a digital file on a drive. There's no real difference if you get high quality rips.
>>
>>221482991
why would sony shoot themselves in the foot like that?
>>
>>221483115
Time is running out before 2030 comes along and we're supposed to own nothing, they probably don't want to upset their WEF demon overlords.

Yep this. It's the least aesthetic thing to collect compared to Books, Music and retro vidya

>physical copies and collecting vs just streaming or torrenting or whatever
Physical had SOUL, but is not practical since... 2005. Too much screens to navigate, dumb extras and terrible Bluray releases (piss filter, blue filter, censored versions etc). In essence, physical copies from the last decade were shit, peak was late 90-early 2000s.

So.... I took the CavillPill: torrent the best version available (usually from some fansub) + external HDD. Its the best of both worlds.

In the end, this suckers (M$, Nintendo, Sony, even Valve with Steam) are just leechers. Sad, but let them burn.

Anon told me over 85% of game sales are now digital. I don't think they're shooting themselves in the foot.

Ever think about setting up Plex or something?
>>
>>221482991
I torrent everything and also get BDs and UHDs of things I especially like
>>
>>221482991
only the games were announced to go digital (2028 onwards), everything else is moronic speculation, don't lower yourself to /v/ levels of ragebait

Yes, but give up.

I've realized I'm an oldfag who likes to torrent a movie, add subtitles, create chapters and draw a custom cover to the .mkv file. When I want to watch something, I just open the file explorer and double click. No lame extras, no unskipable dumb screens, no network bullshit. Just me, an old PC, an old TV and the HDMI cable.

It just works, man.

It doesn’t really matter. Almost everything that is good is easy to pirate, be it games, music, books or movies. People will find their way around the roadblocks put in place by the big players and share their copies. The often quoted motto fr Gabe is essentially correct. Hell as the newer gen’s become more and more tech savvy, with an ever increasingly amazing back-catalogue being passed around for free, the notion that they can get away with fucking the consumers over in the long run is unrealistic IMO. It’s going to be okay in the end boys. Do not doom, get a popcorn ready and pull out some free kino.

So many Blu-rays have lazy, shitty cover art even compared to the DVD version
>>
>>221483665
Valve has already normalized digital gaming on PC and I bet most people complaining about Sony's decision have bought into Steam and other digital services years ago. Everybody bitches but nobody does anything.
>>
>>221482991
Digital on my own repository, and i donw give a fuck about what fucking boomers say, i just cant store Bluray, DVDs or whatever the fuck i find, also y hate with my guts the ugly tint on DVD and Bluray editions.
>>

The Sony leak showed that about 2/3 of sales for games that actually have physical releases are still physical. Any stats posted claiming there are more digital sales are either lies or trying to trick you by including digital only games/DLC which never had a physical release in the first place.

>Everybody bitches but nobody does anything.
I did:
- Stopped CONSOOOOOOMING.
- Pirate with no remorse, even free indie games.
- Found a new non-cucked hobby.

I got a big physical collection and also have a lot of 4k remux, I didn't want to pump all the money into hard drives since they can fail and discs have a possible longer lifespan
>>
>>221484276
I'm tired of old movies or shows with shitty cover art and the only recognizable star today blown up in the center
>>
>>221484361
And PlayStation normalized microtransactions decades ago with buying memory cards to save content that's already on the disc
>>
The only physical movies i buy are few and far between. I will purchase is Sheep Detectives when it becomes available.
>>
I think it is very important to ensure that your physical collection speaks very specifically to your taste. I think if you try to buy a bunch of random shit that you only half like/half expect to like, you will soon look at your collection as a giant pile of plastic for manchildren.

In other words, restraint is necessary... and prevents you from engaging in pure consumerist habits.
