>>221566034>>221566106>>221566121Nah. Pacific Rim is definitely better than Star Wars 3 in several imporatant aspects: Direction, cinematography, acting. To be frank, Star Wars 3 is outright abysmal in all of those. Worse than almost all others in that list.Worst of all in terms of acting is either Dark Knight or John Wick. Worst in terms of direction, Parasite or Top Gun. Worst in terms of cinematography, John Wick or Star Wars 3. That's where I'll leave it. I'd have to rewatch them all to judge them on some minor aspects (editing, sound editing, score, lighting, set building, visual effects) - but the Star Wars one probably isn't in the lower half for those. As for which one is the best, probably unironically Whiplash, perhaps even for how straightforward and simple it is, in contrast to most other stuff on that list. Perfect Days is simpler and more straightforward, of course, but then there was so little effort behind that one ... dunno.Gotta add: I have not seen Sentimental Value, hence it didn't factor into anything I've said.

>My only encounter with Federico Fellini occurred in a toilet. This was in 1966, when he was one of the most celebrated and admired film directors in the world. I was 26 years old and I had recently directed my first Sydney Film Festival. I was on my first visit to one of the legendary European festivals. Venice was, in fact, the oldest of all the film festivals having been founded in 1933, during the era of Mussolini and Fascism. This being the first international film festival I'd attended, I knew nobody there. The friends I would make in the future were unknown to me then; I was a babe in the wood, a novice at the game. But waiters offered glasses of champagne and I drank a few, realising, as I did so, that I was drinking on an empty stomach, not having had the time for dinner that evening. After about an hour of such 'star-gazing', several glasses of champagne, a few bites of canapes and the occasional desultory conversation, I felt an urgent need to find a toilet. With an increasing sense of urgency I sought a 'cabinet' and, when I finally located one, the urge had become close to desperate. There I was at last, standing up against the porcelain, feeling a sense of relief. A man was standing next to me, a big man who looked vaguely familiar. I stole a glance at him. Could it be? It was. Urinating next to me was none other than Federico Fellini. I can only excuse what happened next because of the excitement of the occasion, the champagne and my youthful naivete. I turned towards the great man. "Mr. Fellini," I began. And I peed all over his shoes. One result of this brief, unfortunate, encounter was that I learnt a new Italian word: "Stronzo!" It means "Asshole." It was well deserved.

Last thing he did was a short for some festival where the director had to collaborate with a musician to make a short. I saw all of those, most were shit except Davies (was literally a single three minute static shot with Davies reading a poem in the background and it was beautiful) and Zhangke. Maybe a couple of other decent ones but these two from the top of my head.
Hey guys, I'm looking to buy a few Gregg Araki films I like, but I'm aware he's a very revisionist director and I'd like to get the best PQ release for both the original theatrical cut, and subsequent alternate cuts. For the particularly expensive and hard-to-find ones I'll probably put them on Soulseek uncompressed. I'm aware the Teenage Apocalypse trilogy recently had a Criterion set with all three 'restored' and Mysterious Skin has been revised too with a physical release pending. But it's really difficult to find info on what previous releases these films have had & what cuts, which releases have correct aspect ratios or not, bitstarving/macroblocking, etc. Does anyone know where would be the best place to ask about this?- The Living End- Totally F**ked Up- The Doom Generation- Nowhere- Mysterious Skin
>>221584759oh and also the release info on bluray.com is very incomplete e.g. no Nowhere DVDs listed even though they exist, so I've checked there
>>221584759Probably https://forum.blu-ray.com/You can see all the releases of any specific film, here using Doom Generation as an examplehttps://www.blu-ray.com/The-Doom-Generation/87952/If the film is popular enough it'll have a written review and screenshots. The release pages also list specs.

I watched The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie by Bunuel and it was very funny. You should watch it too because you might find it funny as well!Thank you for reading my post!
>>221581014Over the years I developed a taste for camp (especially John Waters) and for old kaiju movies. Do those count as "fun movies"?
>>221610184I will!
>>221610297Nice! I hope you have fun!Bunuel is a great director and rarely ever was I disappointed by him when he made something surreal and absurd. The Exterminating Angel might be in my top 20. Belle de Jour as well because I'm a hopeless pervert.

>>221609250Yup. It’s from an earlier scene where Maggie Cheung’s character the Persian sorceress intentionally gives them bad equipment to mess with them- the princess flies off with the boot and Ouyang Fen gets a box of bees“Wow, thanks for all this stuff. I didn’t realize you were so loyal.”“Yeah of course. Just try out that box of enchanted bees and you will see how ‘loyal’ i really am!”
