Will we ever get a faithful adaptation of the Odyssey?
Will we ever get an historically accurate Xena reboot?
>>221587317>pov you missed the exit at Peloponnese and now you have to take a little detour
>>221587317The "who cares, the story isn't history, it's fiction!" fags can't complain if someone decided to make an odyssey adaptation with this map in mind
>>221587317Lol that's not where Crete is. None of that is even the Mediterranean.
>>221588215the greeks were mistaken, Crete is suppose to be in Poland
>>221588265You can't grow olives at such a high latitude.
>>221588387The “theory” is that the events of the Trojan War took place in the Baltic, and that some of the people who lived there migrated south into Greece. The Homeric Epics represent a domesticated version of those tales after hundreds of years of years of oral tradition and cultural mixing.
>>221587317This retard wrote a whole book about his schizo theory and missed all the flora and fauna references in the Odissey that only exist in the Mediterranean, it literally takes 30 seconds to debunk this schizo nonsense>"Now at the harbor head there is a long-leafed olive tree, and near it a cave, pleasant and dark, sacred to the nymphs called Naiads... Here they rowed in... and they lifted Odysseus out of the hollow ship, wrapped in the linen sheet and glossy rug, and laid him on the sand, still heavy with sleep. And they took out the treasures... and set them all in a heap by the trunk of the olive tree, clear of the path...
>>221588496>snowapes wewuzzing mediterranean history because their barbarian ancestors were too retarded to learn how to read and write until the early Middle Ages case number 1312393
>>221588500He’s not proposing that Homer’s Odyssey takes place in the Baltic, but that the oral traditions that led to it came from the Baltic.
>>221588496>oral tradition and cultural mixing. All Bronze Age civilizations were within a specific latitude range. Poles and Euros north of the Alps didn't have writing or civilization until around (after even the Iron Age) Clovis but Charlemagne really.
>>221588549Ah, so it's the whole "Hercules came from Samson" kind of nonsense
>>221588549It doesn't have to be. Poisedon could've plausibly sent them to the New World or Tahiti. It's stupid having to wewuz the Greeks and Trojans mostly because it makes no sense. Also, this miniseries ain't bad.
>>221588627I don’t know what you’re referring to. I’ve not read his book but I assume he means that the groups migrating or invading into Greece brought the tradition with them and that they became domesticated. I don’t think anyone is suggesting the Mycenaeans were Nordic >>221588539 the Mycenaeans are an earlier civilization which predate the height of Hellenistic culture after the Greek Dark Ages
>>221587317I don't understand the mapWhy does it say Egypt where Poland is
>>221588736Dude, the Greeks in the Iliad and the Odissey are Myceneans. The ''theory'' is completely retarded and comes from an ''independent researcher'' crackpot
>>221588787>Dude, the Greeks in the Iliad and the Odissey are MyceneanObviously, but the Mycenaeans are a different culture which predates Homer and the Greek Golden Age. Their real life counterparts and their exploits have been juiced up through centuries of epic poetic tradition and hellenized to better fit the culture Homer lived in >crackpotObviously
I was recently rewatching The Gilmore Girls, and Season 1 Episode 7 has a bunch of discrete references to Ancient Greek Myths, without ever mentioning the myths by name. Interestingly, in addition to the references, there is also mention of “Melting Ice Caps” and there is a map in the background showing a North Pole centered map. This episode supposedly came out before the Vinci book did. Incidentally, there is a 1903 book called “The Arctic Home in the Vedas”, that makes similar claims about classic Hindu Myths.
